Replacing graphic images in documents

Hi
Ideally when we notify people of this problem we could forwards the mail to the list at the same time in order to break it into a new thread on it's own.  As it is the 2 threads are now inextricably entwined.  Luckily they seem to be helping each other as the subjects are very close.

Thank you Tom for the information. I had not tried the link feature because it was greyed out and would not allow me to change it. But from your help above I could see how to create the images as links. So I did try it and it appears to work very well. I can say that this is almost the same process as I was doing before by selecting the file name from the dialog or typing it in directly. Since most all of my images have the same aspect ratio this is certainly a possibility for me to use.

Since it appears I need to recreate my photo layouts for this, I think I will use the same image just as a place holder with the document itself. It can be used many times across many documents. Then open the doc and change the links to the photos I want printed but discard when completed.

Thank you again and it appears this will be the best way for me resolve my problem.

Yes, I tried it and it does work that way for me as well. It seems to me it will be cumbersome though when working with 2 or 3 dozen photographs. With only one or two photos the extra operations would not be excessive.

Another response suggested using links instead of embedded images. I think the links will work better for me overall. I can go as much as a year without even turning on my color printer. But then when I need it, I can have hundreds of photos to print.

Thank you for the solution and I will keep it in mind.

I use the method I suggested for a replacing or updating less than a dozen
images. For "hundreds" I think the best method is indeed to use links
pointing to a folder where the images are named from 0001.jpg to 9999.jpg
and in future uses just replace the images.

If this under Windows there are a few excellent batch rename utilities. Even
Open Source, like this one

I'm glad I could help
