Support options

I've come across a couple of forums that meet those two specifications.

They either are spam havens, of the moderators work 7/24/365 approving
messages that are posted to them.

Either way, I don't see that as a viable option for LibO support.

Hi Andreas,

As far as content matters,

https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/index.php

is the major resource of user knowledge for both OpenOffice and
LibreOffice users.

Maybe it's a good idea if that forum also announces the new versions of
LibreOffice, and not only those of AOO ?

Cor

That's the place where the music plays, where the traffic goes, where
answers and documents are given to users of both suites.

The solution is simple. Just log in to the forum and post the announcement.

The administrators have worked hard to keep the forum open and welcoming
for _ALL_ reasonable ODF related issues, not just AOO.
The forum title clearly states:
"User community support forum for Apache OpenOffice, LibreOffice and all
the OpenOffice.org derivatives"

Plus we have http://en.libreofficeforum.org/ While this is not TDF
hosted, it does form part of our wider ecosystem.

Obviously you are a volunteer there but please remember we (TDF, the LibreOffice project) don't advocate in any way that users subscribe to the OpenOffice forum hostee on OpenOffice. org

Ask.libreoffice.org has over 10000 questions and threads. So the music
is not only playing on the openoffice.org forum

Don't get me wrong, I believe the OpenOffice.org forum is quite alive
and active. But this is exactly this, it's the OpenOffice.org forum. I
do not believe anyone here would have to convey the news of LibreOffice
releases there as it should be done automatically by existing posters of
the forum. In this sense, Cor makes a good point. Marketing - wise, we
do not wish to send people on a forum bearing the name of another (and
concurrent) product. No hard feeling Andreas, you are doing a good job
over there, but inviting users of LibreOffice to a place with an
openoffice.org address is not something desirable.

Cheers,

Charles.

So much for topic support options.

Hopefully the chantges you suggested work.

Dave,

Charles,

I am curious why you are pushing the OpenOffice forum rather than the LibreOffice Forum (access via Nabble or the other forum, http:// www.libreofficeforum.org ; or Ask.libreoffice.org ). Obviously you are a volunteer there but please remember we (TDF, the LibreOffice project) don't advocate in any way that users subscribe to the OpenOffice forum hostee on OpenOffice. org

Quite simply because it is better, more complete, and more replete with
people knowledgable about how to use LibreOffice/AOO/NeoOffice and has
been for a very long time. That cumulative experience is a goldmine.

Much as I hate to say it, and despite my being a fairly frequent
contributor to the AskLO forum, I still regularly search for answers in,
and direct people to, the OpenOffice.org forum. That is not likely to
change in my opinion as long as I continue to be a user of LireOffice.

Hi Dave,

The solution is simple. Just log in to the forum and post the announcement.

Ah yes. Will do that. IIRC there will be some major release shortly
I guess some of the moderators must make it stick in the announcement
section then.

for _ALL_ reasonable ODF related issues, not just AOO.

Ah well, visual there are some improvements possible of course.

Plus we have http://en.libreofficeforum.org/ While this is not TDF
hosted, it does form part of our wider ecosystem.

As in a bazaar

Cheers,
Cor

I posted a topic about 4.4.1 a week ago, but it has been parked in a sub
forum, not placed on top as other announcements. Alas. I posted a
request to one of the moderators, but have not yet seen a response.

Cheers,
Cor

Your topic
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=101&t=75656 is
always on top of the LibreOffice subforum now.
