Survey: Usage of LibreOffice components

Hi Peter

I actually turn this thing on.

For me it's OK, that some people like it and some don't.

It can be switched on - for those who like it - and it can be switched off - for those who don't like it.

There are of course different opinions and it can be discussed, if the default setting should be one way or the other.
However, somebody calling it "the damn thing" and so on, just gives people like me some very negativ feelings. (Me, using a damn thing?!)

And I don't think that is alright!

It would be OK, if you would say, that you don't like it and would prefer to have it switched off by default.

Such would leave a better spirit in this newsgroup.

Thanks for your understanding.

Greetings from Switzerland,
Rolf

Maybe Quickstarter was usefull with the slow loading StarOffice suite, but OO and LO already load up pretty quick.

And no one uses it here as I see. I don't use it too. I think it would be switched off by default or removed..

I do not use quickstarter, but my father and other elder people I know do use it.

Writer = 80 %
Calc = 10 %
Impress = 0%
Draw = 0%
Base = 10%
Math = 0%

I actually am not necessarly loading it for speed purpose!
But I use it for an easy access!

I right click on the icon and select the app or template to start the apps. :wink:

Disagree... makes a *big* difference in LibO startup time here...

Sample/simple document opening time:

With Quickstarter running: about 1 second

Without Quickstarter running: about 8 seconds

I don't really care what the default is, but it definitely should not be
removed completely until a *lot* more optimization is done.

I'd like to know which components are most used and maybe why others are not. If you used OpenOffice before you can include your usage data as well.

Do you use the quick starter?

No, I don't use quickstarter

This is more or less private. There's no goal (other than to satisfy my curiosity) of this survey, but someone might use it for it's own purposes. e.g. discussing about changing installer defaults, creating a light installer... and so on.

I start (OpenOffice usage included):

Writer = 90%
Calc = 09%
Impress = 01%
Draw = 00%
Base = 00%
Math = 00%

Writer = 60%
Personal correspondance, technical reports

Draw = 15%
Diagrams and Figures for technical reports

Calc = 15%
Technical Calculations

Math = 5%
Construct & insert Formulae into technical report

Impress = 5%
Work Presentations

Writer: to write private letters

Do you by any chance have the option to check for updates enabled? That makes a very dramatic difference in startup time, and is really not particularly useful given the frequency and scope of "updates" (i.e., replacements).

ot especially relevant

ot especially relevant

No, I generally turn that off at install time, but I just went to
check/confirm this, and now I can't seem to find that option anywhere...
pointer?

I'm using OOo 3.1.1 on Win7-64bit, and it's under Tools > Options, OpenOffice.org, Online Update, Check for updates automatically. Sorry, I don't know if the LibO beta has a corresponding option.

Apparently not... I'm using b3, and there is no option there, and I do
now remember that is where it should be...

I guess it makes sense for the LibO developers to have removed it until
the infrastructure is in place to make it work though... :wink:
