4.2 update in Pootle

Hi,

I did not see it announced here, so probably work is on progress. But
I saw a lot of people started translation.

For help, the 20000 new words look very bad. When I updated filed from
4.0 to 4.1, I used a script that replaced ahelp hid parameters in
translations, most of the this untranslatable change is the only
change. I saved the commands, probably they are still useful:

git diff 14779b36c86679f..6ff9e113ec34775 | grep "ahelp hid" | grep -v
"^ " | sed -e "s/^.*ahelp hid=\"//" | sed -e "s/\".*$//" > replace.txt

I don't remember what the commit range was. Probably from 4.0 branch
point to 4.1 branch point. Then I manually edited replaced txt, there
were some wrong lines in it. I kept only the real pairs of changes.
Then I replaced strings in existing translations:

for i in `ls -1 translations/libo_help/ | grep -v templates`;do python
src/pootle/manage.py sync_stores --project=libo_help --language=$i;cd
translations/libo_help/$i;for j in `find . -name \*.po`;do sed -f
/home/timar/replace.txt <$j >$j.new;mv $j.new $j;done;cd
../../..;python src/pootle/manage.py update_stores --project=libo_help
--language=$i;done

Then I updated translations against the latest templates.

My second remarks is about UI. I find the new word count too low. I
can't believe that there is nothing new in sw, sd, sc etc. I did not
check, though.

I'm sorry, if these issues have been already known, and are being addressed.

Cheers,
Andras

Hi Andras,

could you confirm me the package migration is from 4.1 to 4.2 ?

I'm currently working on an important revision of the help, indipendent from
the translation, and I need to know if I can safely continue this revision in
4.2, leaving 4.1 in its present state.

I cannot confirm, Christian Lohmaier is in charge, not me.

Best regards,

If the announce didn't make it through, then let me know - as gmail
user I don't notice when mails don't make it to the list..

Migration copied libo_help/ui to libo41_help/ui - and 4.2 took the
libo_help/ui ones as well, but did update it against the templates
that were updated for 4.2

4.2 can be used, however for 4.1 I did run it against the updates that
occured during break of string freeze on 4-1 branch not long ago.

If you did trigger the manual update and fixed the strings (mostly
changes to the xml-attributes, but also new documentation for
date/time related functions in base.

ciao
Christian

Many strings I browsed in chart module were already translated in the
past. I know chart underwent changes to the new UI technique (I did part
of it), but all the functionality and dialogs are the same as in 4.1..
Ireally don't like to redo a translation as it introduces errors very
easily.

So, as far as I understand, the strings in 4.2 are from 4.0 (let's say) and
not from 4.1. Am I correct?
This is on the Source part.

Concerning the Target part (I mean the "translated" strings), where do they
come from? I hope from the 4.1 project, which is, at least for Italian side,
the one in which we are working on revision.

Please, let me know, thank you.

No - I took the files that were in the libo_ui and libo_help projects
(in other words those that were used to translate for libreoffice 4.1)
and just updated them against the new templates for 4.2

The "source" strings come from english 4.2 codeline.

The target strings come from the old 4.1 translations, where the
update could match the strings against existing ones.

Andras already mentioned that one could manually help the process to
have more matches (i.e. less stings to translate) by copying over
changes in parts that are not meant to be tranlsated (identifiers in
the xml tags for example)

I hope from the 4.1 project, which is, at least for Italian side,

Yes, it is based on 4.1 project.

ciao
Christian

Thank you very much Christian, for the explanation.

Ciao
