Hi.
There has been previous discussion on anchoring images in LO. Certainly an area for improvement, I have a document with many images, anchored to page as anchoring to paragraph and anchoring to character are not working well.
Now I need to insert 2 pages but my images won't stay anchored to the page I anchored them to.
Is there a simple work around anyone knows of.
Thanks, steve
Suggestion: anchor images "As character" in an empty paragraph. I just finished rewriting a document with several images in 80+ pages. The images remained where they were anchored.

Hi
Alternatively just insert the pages and then cut&paste the images back to the correct page. Their position on the 'new' page remains exactly the same as it was.

Thanks, looked at that, but how do I get text wrap around when anchored as character.
Steve
Thanks Tom, that would have saved me some time.
It is a pity there is no "Insert page" as opposed to a "shove all text down one page".
Also be nice if you could specify the paragraph or character to anchor to when anchored that way.
Steve
You can. Click the image to select it - so that you see the eight coloured handles. You will now also see the anchor symbol, and you can drag the anchor to an alternative paragraph or character (as the case may be).
I trust this helps.

Hi.
But the anchor cannot be below the image or above another paragraph that is above or in line with the image.
Put 2 images on the right of the page so text wraps left of them. Have 3 or 4 paragraphs in the space to the left of the images. Anchor both images to the top paragraph.
Unless things have improved from 3.5 or I am missing things completely it doesn't work. It has worked in other software from a long time ago, so long I can't remember. You could move the anchor to any paragraph on the page and the image stayed relative to it.
Cheers, Steve
ISTM that "anchoring to pages" is not understood. This a very common mistake.
Anchoring to a page will do just that: the image stays with page it is anchored with. Eg: if you anchor an image to page 4, it remains in page 4 whatever may happen. IOW, inserting a new page 3 will move the image to the new page 4.
Pretty confusing, I know. BTDTGTTS.
I prefer "character" or "as character" anchoring which I find much more versatile, as pointed by Dan.
Hi
Wrap is a separate setting.
For greater finesse with images i tend to do 4 actions for each image. It looks like it might be possible to even cut down on that.
Step 1 = right-click on image and choose "Anchor" - "to page"
Step 2 = right-click on image and choose "Wrap" - errr, in this case "no wrap" i think
Step 3 = right-click on image and choose "Picture" (or frame or whatever)
This final step allows a huge variety of settings, including wrap and padding around the wrap to create a space between any picture and any text that flows around it. The 1st tab allows you to retain aspect-ratio and then just type in a size so that logos and such don't get distorted.
Another tab allows you to set a url-link so that if the document is viewed on a computer then clicking (or rather ctrl-click) opens the systems default web-browser and takes the person to that website. If you subsequently export to Pdf then people can just do a normal click in the pdf to get to the url you set.
Step 4 = drag the image to where-ever looks good (but later in the document's life i might repostiion again)
Yes, hindsight is wonderful but with enough of them you one day find yourself ahead of a situation. "All this has happened before and will happen again" (from BattleStar Galactica). "There is never enough time to get something right first time but endless time afterwards" (dunno who)

Hi
As you can tell we mostly have different preferences and just learn ways of dealing with any side-issues that may arise. MS Word can't handle "Anchor to page" amongst other things so if you need to collaborate with Word users then avoid that one. Also LO allows you more flexibility when dragging images around to find the best positioning.
