[ANNOUNCE] New strings in Pootle for 3.5

Hi,

Today I extracted translatable strings from source code. For those,
who don't use Pootle, I put the SDF file and the POT files here:
http://dev-www.libreoffice.org/l10n/latest-sdf/
http://dev-www.libreoffice.org/l10n/latest-pot/
Please remember this new location, I will not use the ftp.fsf.hu
server any more.

Pootle users only need to wait a bit, Pootle is being updated. It
takes a lot of time, as always. I think it will be ready in 3-4 hours
from now.

Please note, that there is a new module: nlpsolver. Please copy&paste
your existing translations from
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/<language>/extensions/NLPSolver/,
I did not have the time to do the migration.

Also, there are new strings in the English and Hungarian dictionary
module, coming from the Lightproof grammar checker. Feel free not to
translate them, especially the Hungarian, if you think that your users
will not benefit from this module.

I have to admit, that strings from .properties files from the modules
above can be extracted, but at the moment translations are not merged
back. So please don't be surprised, when you don't see NLPsolver or
Lightproof translated. The same applies to NLPsolver help. I hope I
can finish integration work soon, maybe with the help of other
developers.

Best regards,
Andras

Hi Andras

Can You please explain what´s the meaning of "Media" keyid 0roS

What about "AUTHOR", "TITLE" and "Metadata" keyid j9Kv, MSFL and 9YFS

Should these be translated or leave it as is?

I see hundreds of new strings, which puzzles me, just few weeks passed
and ... Well, I will survive.

Is now Lightproof the official grammar checker for LO? Is it included
with LO or just English and/or Hungarian language packs?
Slovenian users prefer LanguageTool, so who voted for it? Or is every
l10 community free to choose its default grammar checker and ask for
its inclusion into official builds? If Lightproof is not part of the
LO official builds, how can Lightproof strings become part of official
po files?

Too many questions, I agree, I just had to write them all down before I forget.

Thanks, m.

No ftp, sorry.

Regarding the grammar checker. Lightproof has at least two advantages
over LanguageTool. It is lighter, and it is not in Java. LanguageTool
was never included to official LibreOffice builds for various reasons.
Now we have LightProof packed in English and Hungarian dictionary
extensions, Russian may follow soon. It was accepted on the TSC call a
week ago, after developer of Lightproof sent his patches to the dev
mailing list. Of course, everybody is free to choose the default
grammar checker, LanguagTool is available as an extension and
currently it supports more languages than Lightproof. LightProof and
LanguageTool can be installed at the same time.

Hi Sérgio,

Can You please explain what´s the meaning of "Media" keyid 0roS

I don't know. Maybe sound, video, etc. It was introduced by this commit:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=ac07fe981912dfd435e571ae42d4c1980fd1cfe7

There are from the reportbuilder. You can translate them, however
currently translations are not merged back to source for this file
type (.properties), I'm still working on it.

Andras

Just for the record. I mailed the author of commit. This was his reply

Hi Caolán
Can You please tell me when and what for will this string be used? In
portuguese, media could be a bunch of things.

In this context "media" will be picture or video or sound, "things that
can be inserted into a slide", e.g. same "media" meaning as "media" in
the english tools->media player entry.

Hi Andras,

as today is 18th Dec, can I start announcing a new localization cycle in my language list? I suppose the string freeze is currently done.

Please note, that there is a new module: nlpsolver. Please copy&paste

I'll check for it, thank you.

Where can we find it? In Launchpad? But where can we contribute for languages other than English and Hungarian?

Hi Valter,

language list? I suppose the string freeze is currently done.

Let's wait until tomorrow evening, or even let's wait for the next
tag, that's the official deadline. You never know who wants to add
something in the last minute. At the moment templates in Pootle are
not up to date, they are from 2011-12-15, and I know that string
changes occured after that date.

Lightproof framework will live at
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/lightproof. Unfortunately it
is empty now, but Laszlo Nemeth, the main developer, will populate it
ASAP. The actual language modules can be commited to the dictionaries
repository. I don't think we'll use Launchpad.I cc-ed Laszlo, get in
touch with him, if you would like to work on the Italian module.

Andras

And I did it again. Pootle is updating. As today was the string freeze

something extraordinary happens, we will discuss it in this mailing list.

Thanks,

I noticed something strange but Andras maybe you or someone else knows
the answer - is the change of scp2/source/extensions.po planned?

There are like 164 strings being deleted there with beta2 350. Those
strings are about support for different languages in LO (UI
translations, localization) except for few languages that are still
left in (English, German, French, Italian and Hungarian). Are those
languages prioritized or have some special functions as opposed to
other languages or are other languages just not available as
extensions anymore? Or were those strings just obsolete because they
were present already in scp2/source/accessories.po?

I just hope Slovenian support does not get dropped from LO ...

Thanks,
m.

Hi Martin,

Only unused strings were deleted. They were not only unused, but in
fact they have never been used. So don't worry about them.

Yes, Sun Template Pack extension is available in these languages only.
BTW Sun Template Pack is not configured in normal LibreOffice builds.

Oh, god. I should have cleaned up accessories.po, too. Many obsolete,
unused strings are there. BTW LibreOffice does not include
"Accessories" at all. Only OxygenOffice does.

I just hope Slovenian support does not get dropped from LO ...

Surely not!

Andras

Hi Andras,

currently string changes seem to be still in progress.

Can you confirm this or we can safely start translation?

Ciao

I'm not aware of any string change since the official freeze date,
2011-12-19. Can you show me examples?

Andras

That is in master, not in release branch (libreoffice-3-5).

Hi, Andras, *,

Will the Lightproof strings get translatable for 3.5.0? I filed
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45397 against them, but then
remembered there was some discussion about them here...

The strings are translatable in Pootle, but I did not have the time to
write the makefiles whicj package translations, so in 3.5.0 these
extensions will be in English and in their native language only.
Hopefully someone (me?) will fix it for 3.5.1.

I noticed that the strings are translated in 3.5.1 RC1 -- thanks for fixing
that!
A few issues remain, though.
1) There is not enough room for longer strings -- i.e. strings that are
more than 10 or 20% longer than in English, are cut off at the end. This
affects locales like fr, de, hu, fi, et, and probably many others. I think
the dialogs should be redesigned to use tabs instead of current sections,
and each tab page should only have one column of checkbox-options, with
full page width available for translated strings.
2) "Dictionaries" and "English/Hungarian/Russian sentence checking" are
still in English.
3) In the English grammar extension, shouldn't the options "Em dash" and
"En dash" be mutually exclusive, i.e. option buttons, not checkboxes?

Best regards,
Mihkel

1) You are right, it is an easy hack. I'll check the issue later.
2) When you start with a new user profile, these are translated, too.
3) Again, ou are right.

I cc-ed the author, Laszlo Nemeth, maybe he finds some time to fix 1)
and 3) before someone else does.

Many thanks for your feedback,
Andras
