Hello everybody,

Mr Florian Effenberger advice me to write on this e-mail address so here I am:) I have a question about possibility to improve into Libre Office something what is called waterfall plot (In QtiPlot program). It is a kind of artificial 3D plot, where third dimension is only a constant period between curves. How it look You can see on attached files. Aas Yoy can see the clarity of this solution is very high, and comfortable for interpretation. I know that some kind of this is a layer plot (which is possible to use in Libre Office), but it use much of computer resources, and old machine don't have chance to make plots which i Have send (one curve have few thousand, or even over dozen thousand of points).
As I know waterfall plot isn't improved even in MS Office.. so If Libre Office have as option possibility to make these plots, it will be distinguishing feature of program. I don't have to talk that this option is very
useful for many scientist (including me):slight_smile:

I hope that I send this e-mail in correct place, If there will be unnecessary any help during improving this option, as much as I can I will give it.

This mailing list doesn't accept attachments. It strips them off the
emails. You could upload the file to some data-sharing service such as
OpenCloud, Dropbox or something and then give us a link so that people could
choose to see the file.

Alternatively you could use Nabble and it's probably easiest to do that.
The easiest way is to follow the links from this email to get you directly
to the right thread. You could go to the official LibreOffice website,
navigate through the "Get Help" into Nabble and then hunt for the right
thread but it's easier just to click on the links in this email.

Once 'here' reply to any of the posts and just above where you type messages
in is a menu-bar of icons with the last one being "More" and the top item in
that one's drop-down menu is "Upload file" which works much the same way as
attaching a file to an email. The difference is that is puts some html code
into the message to give everyone a clickable link to your file. You can
move that html code around and if you know html reasonably well you might
even be able to edit it a bit (although the defaults for it are usually so
good that you wouldn't want to bother).

It sounds like it might be a good idea and maybe worth posting a
"Feature Request" about. For feature requests we use the
bug-reporting system but one of the drop-downs has "feature request"
at the bottom to let the developers know it's not a bug.

Do not use LO; use gnuplot, R, opendx, paraview for 3d plots

I hadn't thought of that. Part of the advantage of using LibreOffice
is that it's designed to be 1 part of a jigsaw puzzle rather than
being a massively monstrous programs that tries to do everything but
does it all badly. LibreOffice tends to co-operate with a wide range
of other programs that fit together well. So, each person has their
own system tailored to their own needs and streamlined to run on
smaller, lighter machines.

It does sound like it might be better to use specialist tools for your
advanced drawing requirements but posting a bug-report/feature-request
is a good plan for the longer term too.
