B ug check - 4.2.4, editing Input fields is broken?

Hi all,

Before I go open a bug report, can someone check me?

This is for 4.2.4 on Windows (7 Pro sp1 64bit).

We have been using forms with Input fields on them since forever, and these have always worked the same way.

You open a template, fill in the fields as prompted, then once they are all filled in, if you want to go back and change one, you simply single click on it and the field pops-open in edit mode just like it was when you first filled it in, you make your changes, then click OK.

Now, there is no pop-up at all. I did finally notice that you can still edit the filed once it has been clicked on by maneuvering the cursor, but this is not very intuitive.

Is this change by design? If so, is there any way to go back to the old behavior? This is very bad for our users, who modify these fields a lot.

Thanks,

Charles

Anyone?

Seem to recall there's a bug report for this :

And these :

No, these are native .odt forms (originally created in Openoffice), nothing to do with Microsoft formats, and not sure why you would make such an assumption.

If anyone else dislikes the new 'inline edit' method for editing Input fields, please vote for my bug to add a preference to allow users to choose between the two methods:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=79877

Anyone know if there has been any movement on this bug that is preventing anyone using Windows from being able to paste into Input fields - a REGRESSION with respect to basic functionality that has worked since FOREVER?

Hi
Good timing!

Errr, is it still in the new branch 4.3.0? Any chance of checking?

If not then maybe the fix could be back-ported to the stable branch?

I think that Charles is talking about this bug
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75319
that behavior has been implemented because of the 68 requests in this one:
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=33737

And thank goodness for that!

It may now be possible to promote LO/AOO into police departments, public
entities etc., that currently use MS Word docs for this.
Also see:

10 years in the making

I guess it depends whether you consider the ability to tab between
fields and fill in without a popup a regression. I consider the ability
to do so a 10 year leap forward. I am also able to paste into fields w/o
issue. The only thing I now have to figure out to use the keyboard to
show dropdown choices instead of having to use the touchpad or mouse.

NoOp, you totally miss the point.

this is not about the new behavior of being able to tab between the fields... I actually like it.

It is about the TOTAL INABILITY to PASTE text into one of these fields, something that we have been able to do since time immemorial.

Wouldn't be the first time

I can paste into the fillable fields on the documents that I have been
testing. If you'd like to drop me a note directly I'd be happy to send
you the one that I've tested. Or you can send me a form that you cannot
past into. Note: I tested mine in Windows and Linux.

Just checked... bug is still there.

:frowning:

The bug is:

1. affecting INPUT fields, and

2. is Windows only apparently

By all means, please send me a form that you claim has INPUT fields that are pastable on Windows version of Libreoffice 4.2.5+.

So... I haven't had time to test yet - does anyone know if this bug was fixed for the 4.3 release?

If not, then I seriously question the devs commitment to quality work. This bug is a deal breaker, and is why we have, to this point, had to entirely skip the 4.2 release branch.

And I'm still dealing with the ridiculous fact that Libreoffice is completely and totally incapable of printing to Tabloid sized paper on Windows.

If you visit the bug you'll see that it has not

This bug is a deal breaker, and is why we have, to this point, had to
entirely skip the 4.2 release branch.

May be because the companies hiring developers to work on LibreOffice
have their own bugs to deal with, you know how the ecosystem around our
suite works.
However, if you want to know more about what they are doing to improve
the quality of LibreOffice, I recommend you read:
https://people.gnome.org/~michael/blog/2014-07-29-under-the-hood-4-3.html
I think it answers your questions about quality commitment.

And I'm still dealing with the ridiculous fact that Libreoffice is
completely and totally incapable of printing to Tabloid sized paper on
Windows.

Could you provide the bug number of this one?
Thanks
Kind regards
Sophie

Sure:

Awesome sounding stuff - but again, all related to builds that we are unable to use due to the bug in question.
