In this context, I'd expect something on the
lines of:

(Provided your work is based on the .PO files
set, )in order to have your updates integrated
in the subsequent builds of the LO, you need to
do the following:

To make it short: if you handle your translations in pootle, you don't
need to take care about many things. The process is:

1. establish a team, request to setup the language project in pootle
here at the list. Document that your team exists at the wiki
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Language_Teams
(latter should be done even if you don't use pootle)

2. follow the l10n mailinglist - you will be informed about
string updates and translation deadlines here.
You do *not* need to take care about the updates or how
to get your translations from pootle to the source repository
this will be done for you. We will take care about checks (for
valid file format) and integrating the files in the build.
You "only" need to take care about your translations (pootle
offers several ways to check for common translation errors)

How you organize the translation work within your team is up to
yourt team. We just want to know, who is the "responsible" person -
this info should be documented at the wiki.
We can share some ideas how other teams work. But this should
be a discussion.

If you don't want to use pootle, you can do all the things
on your own. but still - document who is responsible at the wiki and
follow this mailing list. When a translation deadline is announced,
you can also deliver a archive of po files.

There is still some rework of the way we handle translations pending.
Andras ist working on improvements for the build process. So -
there might be changes in the process. Key is to follow the mailing
list here.

Dearest folks, believe it or not, I didn't intend to portion out blame, to critisize translation software or even to sound harsh. However, we are all human (wink, wink), so etc. My intended expression of bafflement over the recent decisions seems to be mis-received somewhat.

So, my profound apologies if I offended anyone!

Now, like I've said, I did follow the list only superficially for last two months or so.

I'd like to get the authoritative information on the following issues (I understand this would repeat some of the answers already given here or there):

1) Where is the "primary" page on the translation submission process. Where is such page for the process not involving Pootle. (Optionally, what is the name template for the pages providing the technological info for the translations of subsequent releases. Something like the OOO's http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Translation_for_3.3)

2) Where is the "primary" page listing the translation teams and the responsible persons.

3) Where is the "primary" page describing the responsibilities of the translation team.

4) Could the above mentioned address information be issued periodically with recognisable tag (like, monthly and on major changes)?

Initially we thought that l10n of LibreOffice 3.3 will be as simple as
taking OOo 3.3 translations and adding some extra LibreOffice specific
strings. However, some teams were not happy with their existing OOo
translations and asked for full l10n.

We have http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Translation_for_3_3 and
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Mergingl10n but for 3.4 we need to
write everything down to a central page. We were in a transition but
things will settel down soon.

You don't have to use our Pootle. It only an option. I would like, if
all teams at least *stored* their translations in our Pootle, but I
cannot force anyone. :slight_smile: It would be easier, if everyone uploaded the
translations to our Pootle, the team leader can disable editing.

During the lat few weeks I accepted LibreOffice 3.3.x SDF files from
numerous teams, they sent the link, and I downloaded and checked in
their translations. If you have a new Belarussian file, please send me
the link by March 6, Sunday morning. Latest en-US SDF and POT files
are at: http://ftp.fsf.hu/LibreOffice/latest-POT/ and
http://ftp.fsf.hu/LibreOffice/latest-SDF/. Later on we shall see what
is the most efficient way to submit translation.

Sure, communication must be improved. I know that not everyone reads
every e-mail on this list, so it is necessary to summarize the current
information from time to time.
