[BUG] Background colors remove cell lines

Hi,

i found a bug which wasnt in openoffice. When you fill cells with a
background color the border lines of the cells will disappear.

Do the developers read here too or where do i have to send this bug report?

Hi Stevie,

You might want to provide more information on
http://bugs.freedesktop.orgthan you gave us though, such as what
operating system you run and maybe
even a sample document that shows the issue. Personally, I just did a quick
test (opened calc, added a border to a cell, then filled it with a
background color) and the border was still there... so is it some special
kind of situation?

Dear Friend

What software version are you using? In version 3.3 BR-Office could not
identify the problem reported by you.
Sorry for writing but I'm writing from Brazil and my English is not
practical for some time.

I had the same issue. Just take a new Calc doc with no borders set. Fill a set of cells with a color and the grid lines disappear. If I then set borders of course they come back. but this wasn't an issue in Oo 3.2.1.

Oh, yea, I am using Windows XP SP3 and LO 3.3.0 final.

Hi again,

Alright, when you make the bug then don't call them borders, call them grid
lines. Technically they aren't borders, because they aren't manually added
(and don't show up when the sheet is printed). I can confirm the issue in
Libreoffice 3.3 with Fedora 14. Not really sure if that is by design or a
bug though, they might have thought it looked better that way? In any case,
still a good idea to file a bug.

Hi Stevie,

Not a bug. It´s a feature. Works like MS Excel now and increases
compatibility with documents created by Excel. (I am not saying I
like it, but it works as designed.)

Hi Stevie,

This is a feature. I guess it is the behaviour that people know from Excel. And the guys that worked on the Novell version of OOo have - and do - spent a lot of time to make the step easier for Excel users. So this means try to behave as Excel, as far as reasonable.

Personally I am not always happy with those changes. Simply because I am used to OOo Calc and because something as Ctrl-D (Selection list) for example is used often by me.

Discussion with the devs has led to the page Tools > Options > LibO Calc > Compatibility > Key bindings.

Maybe, if there are enough people to help, it is also possible to add the gridlines there?
(Hurray, even more options  )

Do the developers read here too or where do i have to send this bug report?

Sometimes devs read here - maybe if they are pinged for a special subject
Others already pointed to Bugzilla. However, there is a good chance that there is already an issue, and a thread with discussion about this feature.

Hope this helps,

Regards,
Cor

Hi

A normal spreadsheet shows thin grey lines between cells.

There is a "Page Settings" setting for including those thin grey lines on
printouts, the option is labeled "gridlines" and i think that is set by default
usually although i could be wrong.

It is difficult to know what to call those thin grey lines because as you
pointed out "borders" means something quite specific but so does the word
gridlines.

Anyway it is those lines that vanish in most spreadsheet programs when a few
adjacent cells are given a background colour. I don't think there is a way to
get them back except by using borders and then carefully setting the the borders
weight and width to be the same as the thin grey lines.

Hi

It is worth posting this as a bug-report
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport

Because a lot of us don't like the way Excel or other spreadsheet programs work
which is why we switched to OOo or LO in the first place. Having an option
seems a much better plan.

However, many people that receive printouts or look at spreadsheets are used to
this strange type of behaviour so they probably wont even notice.

Please someone of you who is already registered at Bugzilla should post this
bug. When i try to open this site i get an error that the security
certificate is wrong.

HI

Yes, sorry about that. The certificate still hasn't been registered properly
but it is fine. Just accept the certificate and all will be fine.
