Bugs and Issue

Hi Developer,

I'm mark of Philippines, and im using Libre office.

I have this document that has a textbox that I rotated to 90degrees

and everytime I save it to .Docx or .xlsx to send it to my Boss

the text box I rotated is not rotated.

I already gone to several check and found out the it will occur only every
time I convert my file to .xlsx or .docx.

Hopefully this would be fix. Thank you and more power.

Godspeed and God Bless,

MARK DENNIS CABATINGAN

Hello,

I suggest you convert it to .xls and .doc instead of xlsx and docx.
Your boss won't notice, and the conversion will be a lot better.

The cause for this is that microsoft likes to change their fileformat
on a regular base, which leads to unexpected behaviours.

Met vriendelijke groeten, Salutations distinguées, Kind Regards,

Mark,

I opened a bug for you...

https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=71876

Perhaps you can create an account and attach a sample document and also add extra information such as the version of LO that you are using.

Hi
Yes, "Save As..." to "Microsoft Office 98/2000/Xp" (or something like
that, just not anything more recent than 2003).

Just to continue off of previous statements - Microsoft changes the .docx and .xlsx format so frequently that I've heard that people using 2007 (which supports the x format) can have a nightmare of a time with 2013 files (using the "same" x format). I really don't understand how their formats continue to be dominant despite this reality along with the fact that the true international standard is the open standard used by almost every other office suite - pretty ridiculous.

But for an immediate solution, .doc and .xls aren't changing any longer and our support is *relatively* good.

Best,
Joel

Due to MSO's change of file formats, I always suggest the users of MSO use the pre-MSO2007 formats. That way everyone who needs to access those files will not have any issues. A .doc file will display correctly with MSO 2007 through 2013, but a MSO 2013 may not display correctly in MSO 2010 or 2007. With using the pre-MSO2007 formats [.doc, .xls, etc.] then a great number of the non-MS office packages will also display their documents correctly. Sure LO and AOO can read/write .docx, but with MSO's changing their format's internal workings, if their formats will not display correctly within their own line of office suites, then why use those formats.

Then there are the need to have other businesses or agencies share documents. If one agency has bought the newest MSO office packages, and another still uses the older ones, then the possibility that all parties involved can use all the documents created is rather low. Sure you could ask them to use the ODF formats, but most businesses seem not to want to change to "something new". So if you can get them to use the MSO formats that everyone can read/write without any issues, then that is the first step in the process of document compatibility with "most" office packages. Then you can start showing these businesses/agencies how well LO works and they will not have to pay MSO "blood money" the next time there is a need for more computers and more copies of an office package.

Hi
Backwards incompatibilities are fairly understandable. New features
added between 2007 and 2013 are unlikely to be able to be seen in
2007. That kinda makes sense to me.

What doesn't make sense is how often files created using MS Office
2007 run into trouble in newer versions of MS Office, such as 2010
(I've managed to avoid 2013 and 365 so far!). One of my clients was
running into so many problems with his new laptop's MSO 2013 failure
to handle files given to him by 2010 users that he finally allowed me
to install LibreOffice so that i can send him Odts.

I have a lady who use to send out "complex" .docx files, via email, to people in a transportation advisory group. I had a long "talk" with her, via emails, about the "incompatibilities" of MSO with their older versions. Now, most times, she sends the documents that are not to be edited as PDF files. The others she remembers about half of the time to send the files out as .doc instead of .docx.

She has changed jobs, promotion [sort of], to the department that oversees the company that she worked for. That department is part of the "County" government administration. I have been trying, on and off, to get the County to use LO in some of their areas of agency support that would be perfect for LO as a MSO replacement even using MSO document formats. I am working on the idea of saving money on their budget.

So the issue of the incompatibilities between various versions of MSO is part of the problem with buying new MSO packages, or "renting them". If I could get them to stick with an earlier version of the .docx file format or the .doc format, then that would solve some of their problems and would make LO perfect for some of their system needs/usage. They oversee several community computer centers. So getting the County on board will make it easier to get LO into some of the region's computer centers.

Hi
Earlier versions of the docX implementation don't always work on more
recent versions of MS Office. Doc does but DocX doesn't always.
