built-in help - how to activate it

Hi,

I just downloaded the 3.6.3 built-in help and installed it but when I press F1 or help button I still go to the browser/wiki help which I really don't like.

Any tip what else one needs to do besides installing it to get Windows style help file - which I assume is what is installed by the built-in help.

Thanks for any tips
Werner

Hi,

I had the same problem. If I remember right you need to make sure that the
languages set up in Tools - Options - Language settings - Languages match
the language of the Help file that you installed.

Tried this but..

I got the installer: Windows, version 3.6.3, English (GB) and the corresponding built-in help.

In the "User interface" setting I can only select "English USA" or "French France", not that my Windows version is a French one.

Any other tips, or do I have to install a "English USA" version to get "close" to what I like to have.

Werner

Werner,

I also have LO 3.6.3 (under Windows 7) which I set up using the installer
and help files for English UK, but unlike you I have English UK as one of
the possibilities for the "User interface". (If I change the User
interface to English US I get the problem you are encountering.) I know
it's a pain, but I suggest that you remove LO from your computer and also
delete the LO user profile. To do the latter see

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile

Then reinstall LO making sure that both files are English UK and that you
do so in the right order, i.e. the Help file last.

Hi Graham,

Finally got it after about 3 de/install cycles.

During the installation I have to select English and French, just English isn't good enough:(.

After that I can select English in the language settings and then the built-in help is working.

Thanks for getting me going
Werner

Hi
Congrats!!  It really shouldn't be that tough so it's good to hear you did battle through it and win.  Hopefully next time it 'should' be much, much easier [crosses fingers]

Would have been nice(:, installed 4.0.2 and I am back with help only via the web.

Currently I don't have the time nor energy to go through I don't know how many de/install cycles.

Installing help should be a very easy task and not this kind of jumping through .....

Best regards
Werner

P.S.
I like LO but this is really a frustrating issue to have to go through each time!

Hi
This time just get the published guides.  They are only in English because translators mainly work on translating the inbuilt help.  It's about the first time i have seen any Pdfs that do allow you to click headings in the Table-of-Contents and internally in order to jump straight to the right place.

Free from here
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications

The French part of the wiki has a good Faq that hasn't been translated into English yet.  I'm not sure if you can download it and keep as a local copy.

I install an English version of LO and an English version of LO help and when I press F1 I would like it to open help locally and jump to the appropriate section. That I do all this on a French OS shouldn't matter to LO, at least in my view:).

Opening a PDF and then jumping to the section is great, but it is a work around and not a final solution.

Hi
The in-built help is primarily maintained by the devs so it might be worth posting a bug-report about it
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport

done: Bug 63637

P.S.
Are you aware that you respond to list AND email - not really needed no?
