Calc chart question

I just installed LibreOffice for the first time and am looking at the Calc
program. All of my charts created by Office 2007 look funny.

The charts are column charts and in Office they appear as actual columns,
like this:

In Calc, they are just a single line, like this:

http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/file/n3946109/image2.jpg

This makes it impossible to see the colors of the components that make up
the column.

Any idea what might be wrong? I changed the chart type to other options and
back again, but still get the same thing.

Thanks, Bill

It seems that LO is keeping the spacing between bars but not the bar width.

Double click on the chart to switch to edit mode, click on any bar, right
click and choose Format Data Series. In the Options tab, decrease Spacing to
100% or less.

When you report a bug or ask a question it helps that you mention which OS
(I assume Windows since you use Office 2007) and version and which LO
version you are using

Hope this helps.

Pedro,

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I am using Windows 7 64-bit. I have
version 3.5.2.2 of LibreOffice.

OK, that was set at 150%. I tried 100, 80, 60, and 50 and still get the
same results. The column still has no width.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Bill

I'm afraid not. I created a similar chart in Excel 2007 (three columns only)
saved as xlsx and opened in Calc 3.5.2.2. The columns look perfectly normal
and adjusting the gap modifies the column width (as expected).

Can you share (upload somewhere and send the link) one of these files?

Pedro,

Thanks for your help anyway, but I really don't have any way to share these.

Bill

Hi
Don't worry. That happens sometimes. Confidential information should not
be shared. Can you create a copy of the file and then switch in different
names and values into the copy?

If you can do that reasonably easily then you could upload the copy to
Nabble by clicking on the "More" button just above where you type in your
comment/reply. The top option in the "More" button is "upload file" and
that has a browse button that works much the same as a attaching a file to
an email except that it puts a link a link to the file in the body of the
message so that people can just click on the link to see the file.

Thanks for the offer, but I think that is too much work. It was just a test
drive and LibreOffice failed. I'll just stick with Office.

I agree it's too much work since you already have Office. But if you
provided such a file it might help others who don't (some because they
can't...) and the next time you try LibreOffice, it could already be fixed

Hi
Ok, no trouble.  Typically to test-drive a car you would have to do complicated things like put the keys in the ignition, turn the key, use the pedals, indicators and wheel and maybe the gear-stick.  Just opening the car door doesn't really count as a test drive and wont really help you turn right.

However, you can always give it another little go later

Hi,

On the other hand, if you opened the door and it fell off... you
probably wouldn't look any further. :frowning:

HI
No-one else seems to be able to replicate the problem you are having.  There only seems to be 1 document affected.  Perhaps the document is corrupted somehow.  Maybe inexperience with LO led you into doing something weird during install or with the document.  Who knows?

Tom,

I'm pretty sure I just went through the install in a normal fashion. I
didn't specify anything strange.

Actually it is all my spreadsheets that have column type charts.

I'm kind of busy right now, but if I can... maybe I'll try to "cleanse"
out one of them and post it on the board.

It just seems kind of strange that a "column" report would show up in LO
as a "line" instead of a "column". Seems like a bug in LO.

Hi
There is no rush.  It would just be nice to find out what has gone wrong but as you point out at this point it's better for you to keep using MS Office until there is a better time for you for finding out what went wrong.
