Calc > File > Print > Options > 'Use only paper size from printer preferences' - checking pref will not stick

Hi all,

Ok, this is driving me crazy...

I have figured out that my current problem can easily be resolved by simply ticking the checkbox referred to in the subject of this email:

Open a Calc document, then

file > Print > Options and check the box "Use only paper size from printer preferences"

The problem is, there doesn't seem to be any way to force this box to be checked all the time.

Anyone have any ideas how I might do that?

Libreoffice apparently has some long standing bugs when it comes to automatically handling paper sizes on the windows platform - point in case, its total failure when it comes to Tabloid printing on Windows (bug 65205, that I opened a year ago, but struggled with for many months before that before finally figuring out it was a Libreoffice bug as opposed to a print driver issue):

Yes, there could be a bug doing it, or sometimes it can be the "drivers".

If I print out a 13x19 inch sheet on the wide format printer, most of the time I get that same page size as the "default selected size" when go to the printing on a letter size laser printer. So I have to watch for that. IT happens in other packages as well as LO. So it may be the drivers with Linux.

So I think it may be the printer drivers, since it allows me to print 13x19 inch paper on a printer that prints no larger than 8.5x14 inch. This shows up in GIMP, and a few other packages besides LO. So I say it may be the drivers or something in the printing "system" for Linux Mint 16 and Ubuntu 12.04/13.xx. I have not tried it with 14.04, yet.

The problem with having LO know which paper sizes a printer uses may be a problem. Each printer driver needs to be able to tell LO, correctly, what are the only paper sizes it can use. That could be a large listing for some of the printers when you get involved in all of the different "International" page size names and such. Some sizes, like Tabloid have one or two other names associated with it, like "B" and "B borderless". Right now, one Linux version seems to likes "B" and "B borderless", while Windows uses "Tabloid" most often. My wide format printer seems to have over 50 different paper sizes listed [via the Printer viewing package for Linux and not LO's listing]. Then LO would need to remember all of those sizes and all of the ones that the other 3 printers use, that is on my network. Of course, you would also need to add the paper sizes you use in your area of the world. For me, you take out things like A4 and the other ones that are not used in the USA. Would you want LO to try to remember all of that? How do you add that to the printing option[s], or even the export to PDF option[s] to give you only the paper sizes that you use?

I know this, but we debugged this to the point that it is absolutely a Libreoffice/AOO bug. It is NOT the driver.

Actually, I would just like a reply to my actual question...

How do I make the subject referenced options STICK?

I want to set it, and have it stay set, and not have to set it every time I print something.

I dunno. I know you guys did a lot of trouble-shooting on this before,
it's probably in the archives somewhere.

Errr, is this on a Windows platform? If so would the xcu file or registry
(or is that the same thing) be a good place to look? I guess you have
already dug around in the User Profile but i tend to find that sort of
thing takes ages and feels risky.

Please vote for this bug if you would like to be able to print on tabloid size paper from windows machines.
