Calc wasting paper

I don't know whether my problem is caused by the existence of formulas that evaluate as empty strings [e.g. =IF(A1="Hide","",0) with the condition being TRUE] or of repeated rows specified in a print range (e.g. $2) but leaving "Include output of empty pages" unticked on the LibreOffice Calc tab of the print dialog does NOT save paper.
