Cannot get LibreOffice to install

Greetings

I have been trying to get LO 3.4.4, 3.4.3 or 3.3.4 to install on Windows
7 SP 1 for the past day or so. I have downloaded all the mentioned
version with the help files and checked their MD5 sums (all are good). I
have attempted to install with and without Admin privileges and still
each version dies at trying to start the Report Builder.

Between each install I use the Windows uninstaller to wipe out each
version before I attempt to re-install a different version.

Is this a bug or just something in Win 7 sp1 that refuses to let me run
software I want?

Have you set a Java environment in Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice/Java?.

Have you set a Java environment in Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice/Java?.

Would he have to have LO installed to do that?

Greetings. I thought I would let you know I am running L.O. 3.4.4. on
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 - 64 bit with no problems. Thus it can be done.

Most likely the problem is being caused by some hardware or software
setting on the computer.

You may want to reboot Windows and bring it up in SAFE Mode - you do this
by hitting the F8 key during startup.

Then once you are up in Safe Mode - Install L.O.

Good Luck!

Hi
Just guessing here but it sounds as tho LibreOffice works for some apps such as Writer, Calc but just falls over when using Base's wizards?

If so then the point about java is probably the source of the problem.  In Writer go up to

Tools - Options - Java

to see what version of java is being used.  At a guess it's something more recent than the 6u24.  Luckily it is possible to install a 2nd version of java alongside the new(ish) one and have only LibreOffice able to access it.

And must be a 32 bits Java version, Lo doesn't work with Java 64.

Hi again all
OK ..a little more info... I do have Java RE 7 (32 bit and 64 bit)
installed, all previous versions (3.4.x and 3.3.x) appeared to work
until I uninstalled and attempted to install 3.4.4. At this point in
time I have attempted to install older versions of LO without success,
various different bugs are happening now, usually they don't like
version 7 of Java.

When the soffice.exe initiates the initial program load window, it shows
the programs loading and halts at "Enabling: Report Builder". Error
message is "LibreOffice 3.4 has stopped working."

Happens every time....

Thanks for your ideas so far

You could try to

1) Uninstall LO and Java 7
2) install Java 6 and LO
3) update to Java 7

If all else fails you can always simply go to C:\Program Files\LibreOffice
3.4\share\extensions and delete folder report-builder

That's a little confusing. I don't think you can start soffice.exe
unless LO has been installed.

I may try your first suggestion....

Your second suggestion won't fly. Unfortunately all I can find in the
C:\Program Files (x86)\LibreOffice 3.4\share directory is 1 folder....
called 'uno_package', there is no report-builder folder anywhere on my
machine. Might this be a problem or oversight of the installer?

Hi again

Got LO to work.... took Pedro's idea and re-installed Java 6 beside
version 7. LO looked for 6 and started up promptly and seems so far to
be running well.

With this in mind I and the experience I have had with LO failing with
just Java 7 installed I would be prone to say that LO version 3.4.x is
not ready or is not fully compatible with version 7 of Java. IME keep
Java 6 installed for LO compatibility

YMMV

Thanks all :-).

How about using something like Revo Uninstaller to dump LO and then
reinstall it.

You might want to comment regarding the startup failure on 39659. IMO LO
should not fail the startup regardless of java version (or no java at all).

Hi
The 6u21 is the best version.  After that Oracle started making java increasingly incompatible.  The _22 is still quite good, about as good as the _20.  I think _23 works but _24 starts being a bit of trouble.  I don't know if there has been a serious study on this but a few people have tested a few versions of java on a few different OSes but it would take a lot of hunting through the archives to gather the data.

In your opinion.

Further, I fail to see what that has to do with LO not starting with
Java 7 installed.

I've no issues with Sun Java 6.26 (linux) or 6.29 (Windows). There may
be issues with Base with later version, but if you are going to post
these, then point to bug report so that OP can judge for himself. I
pointed the OP to a bug report related to Java 7 which maybe related to
his issue. At least it is someplace to start & is based on valid data
rather than generalities.

IOW if you are going to make these statements, then provide links/bug
reports et al to back it up. You may be correct, but it does no good to
make them otherwise.
