cant find main menu in ubuntu window

Hi
Ive just installed ubuntu 16.10 from magazine disc. It comes of course with LO bundled (or parts of it anyhow)
But ive just found when i wanted to change properties that it doesnt have the main menu across the top of the window and i cant seem to find it anywhere. This is the first time ive used linux, i had to install it as my windows 7 installation seems to have broken, so ive got quite a learning curve ahead. Can anyone help?
Thanks
Gary

Hi,

it looks like you are not on your own. I found a link

https://askubuntu.com/questions/219491/why-no-menu-bar-in-libreoffice

There is a suggestion that you get updates. I have seen this shown as a solution elsewhere if you feel confident.

HTH

Actually, is this user stating that LibreOffice is the issue of no menu? Or the OS. After reading the article and the original post, that might be the case.

Since the user came from a Windows 7 environment, MATE would be my choice. Even the application windows seem similar to Win7's application windows.

I find that having a desktop environment that is like the 10.04 version of GNOME works well with Windows users, when they migrate to Linux.

The big "thing" for finding where the menu option[s] is[are] depends upon the version of Ubuntu, for both Ubuntu and LibreOffice.

Did 16.10 still use Unity? How about the tiled environment of Ubuntu Gnome?

I prefer Ubuntu with the MATE desktop environment. The good part is that 16.04 has MATE in its repository.

To be honest, I rarely used Unity with Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04. I made sure I went and installed MATE before I did anything else with the final version.
