Cell style background colour

Sorry for bothering everyone again, but I can't find how to add colours to
the background colour palette. In older LibreOffice versions, or maybe it
was even Apache OpenOffice, I could add colours in Tools → Options… →
somewhere, but it seems to be removed. I miss quite a few colours in the
colour selection area in (right click a style) → Modify… → Background →
Background colour, so I want to add my own and give them names (other than
”#15a3b7” or similar). I'm pretty sure I could do that in old versions, and
I guess it's still possible in today's versions, I just seem to not being
able to figure out how… What am I missing here?

I have tested a littel bit. Don't use Calc so often. I haven't found a
possibility to give a name to the added colors any more. Seems it could
only be modified in the palette-definition of the source code. See:

We have some places where the new palette handling is still missing [1]. Actually the task was way too hard for a GSoC student and we have some minor regressions. I hope the benefit of the new workflow compensate for it. Good news is that this issue got fixed recently [2] and it will be included in the upcoming release 6.2. So please be patient one more month - or download the release candidate [3].

Actually the task was way too hard for a GSoC student and we have some
minor regressions. I hope the benefit of the new workflow compensate for
it. Good news is that this issue got fixed recently [2] and it will be
included in the upcoming release 6.2. So please be patient one more month -
or download the release candidate [3].

Thanks! I'll patiently wait for it to arrive to my distribution (Manjaro).
It's usually not far behind.

Yup: at Tools | Options... | LibreOffice | Colours.

The Getting Started Guide says "You can [...]
change individual colors to your own taste. To do
this, use the Area dialog by selecting Format >
Area on the Menu bar or clicking the Area icon on
the Sidebar, then selecting the Colors tab." (The
Calc Guide - currently at 4.1 - does not appear to have caught up.)

Yes, but that was obviously not what I was asking for, that is change the
suggested colours in the modifying background colour of a style dialogue.

I trust this helps.

But it didn't, since the answer was not related to my question (or maybe I
just didn't understand the answer).

Yup: at Tools | Options... | LibreOffice | Colours.

Exactly, and it's gone now since version 5.something.

Colors can be added to the Custom pallet with colors you name. These are available in Base, Impress, and Writer. Once you have created and named them, they are available for Font colors and Background colors in the Formatting toolbar in Calc.

I recommend you open a new document in Writer. Styles > Edit Style. Click the Color Button. Select the RGB values you desire on the right side of the dialog. Click the Pick button (bottom right). This puts the new color in the Resent Colors box on the left side. Click this color there and then click the Add button. Enter you color name in the popup window and click OK.

There is a drop down list with the names of color pallets that are available for your use. One of them in the Custom pallet.

The general rule is, that adding colors happens at that place, where the color is used. Only very few dialogs are not yet changed.

It depends on the version, which dialog is already adapted. The new dialog version for cell styles is not in version 6.0.7 or 6.1.4, but version 6.3 has it. I'm not sure about version 6.2.

When ever you have a situation, where the new dialog is not yet available, you can take a different object, which already has the new dialog, to add your custom color, e.g. a shape. Draw a shape, use its area property, add your color, delete the shape, for example.

Yes, but I can't just figure out how to use a colour as a style background…
Well, I guess I could make a style adapt to changes in cells, then use that
style on a cell and change the background colour of that cell. Now the cell
style should have the same background colour.
But wait, isn't that feature (having cells adapt to changes in cell
formats) removed…? At least I can't find it. Even Excel has it… (as well as
older LibreOffice versions and, I think, Apache OpenOffice).

Ok, found it, my bad. It was moved from inside the style modifying dialogue
to a button in the format panel. It didn't work in my corrupted file, but
when I created a new one from scratch it worked perfectly.
This will do for now, until I can do this directly inside the style
modifying dialogue in a future version of LibreOffice Calc.
