Character style support in impress

I'm an engineering post-doc and I use chemical symbols all the time; I often need to indicate chemical charge states with super-scripts. The current super-script setting accessed by ctrl-shift-p is not desirable to me; I would much prefer a value for "raise/lower by" of 67% compared to the default value of 33% (I don't understand why this is the default, but that's a separate issue). In writer I could address this by creating a new character style and assigning it to a customized keyboard shortcut. However, I cannot do this in impress. This dramatically slows down by presentation preparation. Automating this process would be extremely helpful to me.

Is adding support for character styles in impress a very difficult problem? If it's something simple that developers won't get to because it's not a high priority, then I would be happy to explore a code fix myself.

hello.
i use libreoffice 4.3.5.
but i tested more than twenty versions of this great program.
more features for impress and its more customizable in impress in
compare to the previous versions.
if i am correct, you can select these settings that you want in the
format menu.
and you can change the values according to your desire.
thanks so much for your question and god bless you.

Hi
There is another app/module/component called "Math" that is designed for
writing formulae. I've only used it for writing maths formulae a couple of
times but it should be flexible enough to do all sorts. From what i
remember it was quite a steep learning-curve and results in images which
can then be used anywhere. If that is true it might be easier to use some
other image-editing program, such as inkscape, gimp or Draw or something
more familiar to you.

Anyway the guides/manuals for "Math", Draw as well as Writer, Impress and
the other LibreOffice modules are here;

for LibreOffice and many other FOSS projects.

Hi Alex,

Is adding support for character styles in impress a very difficult
problem?

As you already know (so for other readers) there is an issue for this:
