Consistent Odd behavior in Impress 4.3 beta

Hi:

I'm running 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and I recently updated from the 4.3
Alpha version of LibreOffice to
Version: 4.3.0.0.beta1 Build ID: 2e39c7e59c8fc8b16a54c3d981dceef27fb0c07f

and ran into two distinct behaviors that seem to have cropped up between the
Alpha and Beta:

1) If there is an Impress document as the most recent file in the opening LO
selector, the image of the slide has an odd blank area in the upper left
corner. No other documents in the list (any row or column) are affected this
way. If a different presentation is loaded, changed, and saved, it then
becomes the first slide and exhibits this behavior. The original slide (now
second in the list) is displayed fine. So this seems to have nothing to do
with a particular file, but rather with the opening menu display. Odd.

2) Within Impress, if I am editing the Notes for some slide, and then click
on the "Normal" tab, the display jumps to the Normal view of Slide #1.

Neither of these is, of course, a show stopper, but I didn't experience
either of these behaviors with the Alpha build I was using (4.3.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: be4035d00f37c492494fa7860955b6d0868c7f77), so I'm wondering if
anyone else noticed either of these behaviors. If it means that someone is
actually working on the Impress code, I'm glad to hear that.

Thanks ...

The only way I am able to add a note to a slide in Impress is to paste a text or something into the slide to get the text box. I then can edit the text. No "Click to add notes". Something I have missed?

Hi
Even if it does seem to be 'only' on your 1 machine that fact that it
didn't happen before makes it worth posting as a bug-report
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugReport
Note those instructions help you find if the same thing has been reported
before as this might be a reappearance of an old problem.

Regressions like this are likely to be easiest to fix while all the new
code is fresh in people's minds spo please do post asap.

It is not necessarily caused by someone working directly on Impress. It
could easily be someone working on something completely unrelated that has
this unexpected and undesirable outcome. Hence why we run the QA
competitions to test as much as possible on as many real-world machines as
possible. The code clean-up is probably, hopefully, leading to a reduction
of that sort of thing but my guess is that it's always possible for any
software.

Good luck and regards from

Sorry for the late response, but I wasn't talking about putting "Notes" into
the presentation as one would do with Writer.

I was specifically referring to the tab that is used to add speaker notes
for each slide in a presentation. So, you haven't missed anything.

P.S. re: Tom's comment, I just posted a new bug about the incorrect (I
believe) jumping to the first slide whenever switching from notes view to
normal view.

Yes, I was thinking of the presentation notes. But I found the solution a couple of days ago.

Hi
Any chance posting the solution that fixed it for you? Does that mean the
bug-report can be closed already by just posting the answer there too?

Btw have a good weekend all! It's sunny and bright in my country, for a
change, so i'm hoping everyone else has a good one too.

Hi Tom:

Some confusion here. Kolbjørn's issue was not the same as mine.

The problem I reported is indeed a bug, as at least one of the testers
confirmed it. If I'm understanding the bug correspondence, another tester
could not confirm it, but was running 32 bit instead of 64 bit which both I
and the first tester were using. Probably some sort of clue there ...

But the behavior definitely didn't exist in the alpha version (I certainly
would have noticed as it is quite annoying) and can easily be reproduced in
the beta.

Here's hoping that a quick read of the code changes will expose what
happened and it will be fixed soon.

Enjoy the sunny and bright - we get that here in the U.S. Midwest, but our
weather seems to still be in beta testing as it's awfully unpredictable and
subject to frequent crashes.

I had to click on "Layouts" in the Properties pane to open the "Click to add Notes" frame. After doing this ones, it looks like Impress remember it. Later, when opening the page "Notes" Impress also opens the "Click to add Notes". I am not able to reconstruct the error.

I have not found any bug report on this.
