I am trying to copy this website to text.

When I copy and paste into libreoffice the data in the columns is in rectangular boxes that I can not do anything with. How can I put this in text format?
Thanks, Gary

Try pasting by "Paste Special..." or press CTRL+SHIFT+V

I tried this. It did not work. I was given no options. No pasting.

Use Edit >> Paste Special >> Unformatted text in Writer and you get the text. You can also use a text editor.

I had partial success trying a piece of it using OpenOffice 3.4.1 Writer. Iit copied the graphic and all of the text (as far as I tried) but it moved
some of the second column to the left column, more-or-less in order. You might be able to straighten it out by editing, or if the copy doesn't
have to be exact, it might be good enough as is. If you run Windows, you might try in WordPerfect, if you have that. WP is very good at that
sort of thing. I don't think Libre can do this, at least not in the version I have. (Using Linux versions of LO and OO, and I think OO is better,
in general. Maybe LO will catch up some day.

I pasted the text into Write and into a text editor (Kate on Linux) without any problems. I am using LO 3.6.3 on Linux Mint 13

Using paste special I am only getting the first column. I am unfamiliar with a text editor. I only use libreoffice for all my text writing and editing. The basic problem is I do not know how to copy the column format into text. I have never tried this before. I have no trouble with the paragraphs or photo.

Thanks, Gary

These boxes have names: they are frames. I also noticed that the the entries used fields as placeholders.
My suggestion is to copy the website to an empty Writer document. Then begin at the bottom by copying the text of the last frame and pasting it below the frame. Then click the line of the frame to highlight it. Delete it. Next do the same thing to the next frame up. Continue this process until you have deleted all of the frames.

I am now at the point where the data is copied into Write and kate. How ever I do not have the 2 columns. How can I format this?

Hi.
The html uses divs and styles that seem to paste into LO as I would expect but not as would have been as simple as if the html was in a table.
With a little adjustment of the frames the look is very similar to the web site.
You can inset a section and define 2 columns then past your text a section at a time without formatting into these sections. Alternatively you could insert 2 frames in LO and paste the columns without formatting into the appropriate frames. You could also insert a table and paste the information into the cells.

Thanks everybody for your help. I was able to get the 2 columns to work. However I am stuck in the columns and can not get out to start another paragraph. This is too frustrating for an old man. I quit.

Thanks again.

Hi
I have attached my attempt at this.  It wont get to the list but hopefully it might get to Gary.

It was a bit of a pain because small chunks needed to be done as columns but then a line or 2 would need to be done with no columns (or just 1 column depending on how you look at it).  Also depending on font the page-breaks come at inconvient opints so it only seemed to work easily for me if i switched View from "Print" to "web-layout"

I tried Paste Special >> Paste as HTML and there were two columns. HTML can produce complex tables if someone takes the time to code.

Text editors such as Notepad (Windows) do not support complex formats that Write supports. They only produce pure text. This tends to strip out of the file any formating commands, tables, etc.

Thanks everyone for your help. I am now able to copy in text.

I was going to suggest using the File->Save As... (In Chrome, it's right-click->Save As...). I've always found this just copies the entire HTML page to a file.

Thanks everyone for your help. I am now able to copy in text.

It was suggested that I explain what I did. The graphic's and paragraphs I just did a copy and paste. Adjusted the size and location of the graphics as necessary. For the columns I had to press enter a few times past the intended insertion point for the columns. This was the main key. Otherwise I got stuck in the columns and could not get out to add more. I copied the columns into LO using "edit - paste special - unformatted text". This gave me a single column. I then highlighted the column and did a "Format - Columns" and chose 2. This gave me 2 even columns which I could edit. I then clicked under the column in one of the places I had previously clicked to get out of it.

Thanks again for everyones help.

Hi
Superb! Nicely done!  Also thanks for letting the list know so that people in the future can find the answer from the archives.
Congrats, thanks and regards from
