default language

Hi,

I downloaded the program - and was "in shock" that the program is in German.
I did not ask for this and was expecting the default language to be English.

Even though I am currently based in Germany I wish to use the English
version; I will also write in English and need English spell check.

Thanks in advance,
astrid

You need to specify that you want to use LibreOffice in English before you
download it. To do this you need to click on "LibreOffice in other
languages" on the right-hand side of the download web-page and then select
the particular variety of English you want to use (UK, US or ZA).

Normally it is possible to change languages from the menu line *Tools -> Options -> Language settings -> Languages* and select the desired language, if it is installed. Have you tried this?
Alternatively: Before downloading you are asked to choose a language (and OS). Perhaps this is the solution in your case?

version;

Log in as Administrator, go to Control Panel, International settings and set the locale to English.
If you foolishly use an Administrator account for everyday work, just do the step 2.

Ignore idiots who ask you to download other version: they are exactly the same and the language is chosen during the install.

Hi
It is possible that your computer is set-up with it's "regionalization" set
to German. The normal LibreOffice downloads page cleverly detects what
Operating System your computer uses and which language it prefers by
default.

I'm guessing you use Windows? If so then all of the advice works because
the 1 download includes all languages. For other operating systems you
might have to use a package manager to add-on the correct language for the
UI/UX and for the spell checker.

Either way it might mean working in German so it's probably better to just
re-download LibreOffice but with the correct language selected, in which
case Luuk's link is hugely useful.
