Envelopes do not print to selected size using OS X

I just submitted a bug report, Bug 40189 - Printing – Envelopes do not print to selected size.
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40189

I am using a Mac, OS X version 10.6.8 and LibreOffice 3.4.2.

Cannot print envelopes to correct size, e.g. a #10 envelope prints to A4 size. The bug was introduced in OOo 3.2 and still exists in OOo 3.4 Beta as well as in LibreOffice.

Hi Larry,

I just submitted a bug report, Bug 40189 - Printing – Envelopes do not
print to selected size.
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40189

I seem to recall that this is already in bugzilla somewhere, and the
problem is not just limited to OSX. Haven't got time to check just now,
but you may find your bug entry gets closed as a duplicate.

Hi
Duplicates add to the original reports just as a good comment would.

Triaging to link reports together appropriately is a really good thing to do and
it's a good way into project, to begin understanding devs and coding issues.
There is not always time to hunt through bug-reports to see if there is already
a similar one. Anyway it can be difficult for a non-dev to know whether a
slightly different thing is related or not. It's much better to have a
duplicate report than miss out on knowing a problem exists.

There is seldom time to do things exactly the right perfect way first time but
there are often opportunities to build on what was done first time.

Hi
Lol, i just realised i totally mis-read Alex's post. I took offence and
"got all uppity about it" but i have just realised he meant it the other way
around because he is always helping people a lot.

Sorry Alex!

I searched for Mac printing problems before posting the bug report and found none related to printing envelopes.

Prevents wasting time of people that have a lot of work to do.

The bug I posted was closed as a duplicate. The one that it was a duplicate of was changed from Linux to all platforms as a result of my bug report, therefore my report was useful and did not waste people's time.

Since this bug was introduced in OOo 3.2 it seems that many people have been ignoring it. I wastes my time every time I want to print an envelope since I have to export it as a PDF and then print it.

Thanks. Good that you tried.

yes and no.
It did add information, but it would be better if you had been able to add it directly to the right issue.
Therefore people spending a lot of time here, could be more helpful in finding relevant issues, IMNSHO.

To better understand the situation, may I ask you and others, if you would mind to query for issues with e.g. "table" in the subject.. You may of course skip closed (duplicate, fixed etc) issues. (* for the query)

Take a look at the list. A bit closer if needed.
Quite fast it will be clear that there is a lot of duplication, obscurity, spreading of information etc.

The fact is that the people trying to keep Bugzilla useful, and that have to work with it, are not confronted with one or two, but with dozens of this and those.

What I want to say: we cannot help that we are no developers, but we can help developers - which we need most of all - by taking time to read and think about all we put in Bugzilla. It is not a bin

Since this bug was introduced in OOo 3.2 it seems that many people have
been ignoring it.

Reasons are mentioned and explained above.

I wastes my time every time I want to print an
envelope since I have to export it as a PDF and then print it.

The subject has been mentioned and discussed before. On this list. On the old OpenOffice.org users list.
AFAIAC, the simple advise and workaround always has been: make a template with default page size, and place the fields etc so that it matches the envelope in the printer feeder.
It is a workaround, but I hope it will help you too.

Cheers,
Cor

Why are you telling me to do what I already did.

I specifically searche for "Mac Printing" bugs since there is a long history of Mac specific printing problems on OOo ever since there was a native Mac specific version of OOo starting with OOo 3.0.

You said " if you would mind to query for issues". I did that, as I explained. Now you are admonishing me for not doing what I said I actually did. What kind of bullshit is this?

This is that 'the rest' is not just 'the first sentence'...

Actually not precisely.

Since your website speaks about "inner harmony and peace" I must have done something terribly wrong in the way I wrote my previous message, to make you choose your strong last words. Apologies for that.

Cor

And I had done that. So why do you keep telling me to do so?

Anyways, I think I will stick to giving help to Mac users at http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/index.php . People are much more appreciative there.

Hello,
I want to make a list box (in Forms Control) affect the choices of another list box. Is there a function that allows me change ranges in the cells referenced in a List Box's source cell range?

Hello,
I want to learn how to create a button to recalculate a cell with randbetween function. I know it is going to be a bit complicated, can anyone point out where I can I find resources online and where I can have a handy reference of the macros.

Thanks in advance,
Jack

Hi Larry,

I think that what Cor is trying to say is that a better choice of search
might have been libreoffice+envelope, rather than searching for a
particular OS, but ultimately, I happened to know that there were
envelope printing issues across multiple OSes, hence my previous post to
you.

I will however grant you that printing on Mac OS from LibreOffice has
been fraught with frustration since the OOo devs switched from psprint
to a CUPS/PDF implementation for printing from OOo/LibreOffice. At least
with the former implementation, one could cook up a PPD file that
included all the options one might need and were supported by the
printer, and then copy that into the psprint subdirectory.

A cell is recalculated, when a referenced cell is changed. You can use this and use not purely "=RANDBETWEEN(1;6)" for example but use something like "=RANDBETWEEN(1;6)+0*A1". If you now change the value in A1, the cell containing this tricky RANDBETWEEN will recalculate.

To alter A1 with a button, you can use a macro. Or you can trick further: Insert a control "number field" and bind it to the cell A1 with a default value of 0 for example. Then insert a button and set its action to "reset form". Each time you hit the button the form is reset and therefore the number field is "reset" and the cell A1 gets a "new" value, although the value is not really changed. But it triggers the recalculation.

Kind regards
Regina

Addition: you can drag the button over cell A1 and set the "number field" ("formatted field" in English UI) to visible="no"
