Errors in (google drive doc - gdoc) --> ( open doc -- odt ) conversion.

Downloading a gdoc document from google drive you will prompted to
choose a conversion.

Choosing 'open document' i get an odt but i spotted an error in
giving 'outline numbering = 10' to even headling styled with headline 1
and superfluous xml in links.

I tried to find a way to fix the wrong oultine numbering but noluck.

I noticed that in the converted odf file 'oultline levels' 1-6 dont
correspont to a heading style instead the relate to nothing.

By completing the missing associations in 'tools --> outline numbering'
new headings will get the proper ouline level but old ones wont
change to correct one leaving only one solution : to delete them and
write them back.

But since i have many converted docs that could be tedious.

Is there another way to correct existing headings or maybe the
converted doc is messed up and a new one from withing libreoffice
should be created, possibly by copy paste to a new empty doc?

I paste some difs among a test odt , and the converted odt from a
test gdoc i created

Under GNU/Linux using v4.3.1.2 opening the provided example and selecting
Tools > Outline Numbering... > Numbering tab > associating Level 1 with
Heading 1 does make the required change. This does not get around the
problem of doing this for numerous heading levels across numerous documents
though. Also note that the GoogleDocs ODF filter appears to be writing out
ODF v1.1 documents.

Hi
Is it possible to post a bug-report to Google. It sounds like they have
really stuffed things up. Also post the same question to their forums as
they probably have (or will have) the same question appearing many times
until they fix it.

In the meantime is it possible to download those gdocs in the older MS
formats? Doc rather than DocX (or Odt) and Xls instead of XlsX? Do those
work any better? How about trying their DocX filters. I only mean doing 1
or 2 just to see how it goes.

Unfortunately it didnt work for me.
I installed 4.3.1.2 to ubuntu 14.04 from a ppa but no luck.

Google docs dont offer the plain .doc export option.
Exporting to pdf wont help since import to LO will happen in LO Draw.
I'll try copy paste to create new odt docs and change my workflow and
report the issue after that work which must do first.

Thanks.

Alexandros

Hi
You can switch LibreOffice to use ODF 1.1 instead of the default
1.2 (Extended)
by going to;

Tools - Options - Load/Save - General

Then about halfway down (or up) is a drop-down that lets you choose;
1.0/1.1
1.2
1.2 (Extended)
Note that the "Extended" part of that 3rd option is to test-drive things
that Oasis are considering for the next version of ODF, maybe 1.3 or
something. However it normally takes ages to define a new version of ODF
as it's decided by a committee of several hundred software companies, and
other organisations along with some fairly expert volunteers. Nothing gets
into an ODF standard until after it has been rigorously tested out in the
wild on real-world machines.

The devs have been working on a new option for that drop-down to hopefully
wrap-up most of those options into 1 consolidated version. I'm not sure if
that's what the 1.0/1.1 is about or if a 4th option might suddenly appear.

Anyway, going by what Owen Genat said 22hours ago it might be worth setting
this option to see if it helps import the gdocs. I've a feeling this
setting is just about exporting/saving documents but it might help deal
with the issue Owen raised.

I tried it with no luck.

Hi
Sorry we couldn't help you with this!

After you've done the current work it might be good to post a bug-report
with google. It's likely to be google docs fault and it's a shame they
don't offer good alternatives! They are one of the companies that
expressed support for LibreOffice and are listed on our supporters page.
So it might be good to mention it on our discussion mailing-list to try to
reach someone with an official TDF email address to see if they can get
something done about it for next time.

I wasnt aware that Google support LibreOffice.

I dont have problem reporting the error anyway.
I've alreadey sent the error in feedback provided in google docs page
itself.
But i didnt get an issue ticket or sth.
