Failure to Apply Text Color

Libreoffice 5.3.3.2 on Ubuntu 17.04: When I select and mark some test then click on the Writer Font Color icon to apply a color the text remains unchanged. Clicking on the Highlight Color icon will apply highlighting to the marked text.

Has anyone else seen this? Am I doing something wrong or maybe have some setting is set wrong?

Should I open a bug report? I could not find any open bugs for this phenomena.

You probably have Tools | Options... | LibreOffice | Accessibility | Options for high contrast appearance | Use automatic font colour for screen display ticked. Remove the tick. (You may need to reload any document before its display will change.)

With this option ticked, the text is coloured in the document file and will print as coloured - but does not display as such. You can see the true text colour in Page Preview - unless you also have Tools

Options... | LibreOffice | Accessibility | Options for

high-contrast appearance | Use system colours for page previews ticked.

Should I open a bug report?

Probably not.

Hey Joe. . .

I just installed 5.3.3.2 on my Ubuntu 16.04 laptop. I had 5.2.x installed but I realized that I had forgotten to install the newest version when I did on a different laptop [17 inch]. That different one had a fresh install of both Ubuntu 16.04 and Windows 10 Home.

Here is what I tried.
I pasted some text into Writer. I selected a large block of text and then clicked on the font color [red was the last one used]. I had no problems with it changing the text to red. I tried changing colors and no issues there.

Since I do not have 17.04 installed, I could not test it using that OS.

Just for reference - what version of LibreOffice was installed with Ubuntu 17.04? I tend to installed the latest version of LO after I upgrade to a newer OS. Of course, I tend to forget to upgrade LO after that. 3 strokes can do that.

With Ubuntu 17.04 and LO 5.3.1.2 (the "standard" for 17.04) I don't see any problem.

Brian's advice quoted below worked for me. It was an issue with accessibility having a check box ticked.

Yes I had 5.3.3.2 installed on Ubuntu 17.04.
