Fill Series

The Calc instructions for filling a series say "Choose sheet - Fill Cells - Series." (https://help.libreoffice.org/Calc/Fill_Series)

Where is "Sheet"? I don't see it on any of the menu drop-downs. What am I missing?

LO Version: 4.4.7.2

Top menu sequence:
File, Edit, View, Insert, _Sheet_, Data, Tools, Window, Help.

IOW, "Fill Cells" is the drop down menu item to look for.

"Sheet" is not in my top menu. Is there some way I can add it?

Sure, from Tools -> Customize and add a New menu named "Sheets". Then add
the commands you'd like it to have. Believe what you are looking for is in
the Edit -> Fill menu at that release.

Note that for the 4.4 release builds, the Calc Sheet menu item had not been
assembled from entries on other top level menus. So must either customize,
or upgrade to a 5.2.5 build or the 5.3.0 build to have the revised menu
layout UI--if on Windows avoid the 5.2.4 build.

Sorry, I was looking at the LibO 5.x series, not LibO 4.x series.

For LibO 4.x the command sequence you are looking for is ">Edit >Fill

I don't have the older version anymore, but it might still be under Edit ... Fill. (Took me forever to find the new location in v5.whatever-I-have).

Sheet is one of the menus, but I think it was introduced in the 5 series...

The easy way is to simply select the cell with the formula the way you
want it, then mouse over the dot in the lower right corner of the cell
when the cursor changes to cross-hairs, then click-hold, and drag down
to the last cell you want to fill.

Why do you advise avoiding 5.2.4 on Windows?

I'm just curious, as I upgraded to that version a few weeks ago and haven't noticed any problems so far, but perhaps I just haven't hit them yet. The release notes mention possible crashes with OpenGL rendering, but that also applies to several previous versions.

Two major issues with the 5.2.4.2 build on Windows:

Crash when exiting Writer after copying to clipboard
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104830

[Windows] Failure to populate system font list
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105015

Steps to reproduce in the BZ reports (and duplicates).

Tens of thousands of crash reports for these two issues, so yes best to
avoid the build and move now to the 5.2.5.1, or 5.3.0.2 both in pre-release.

I recall seeing that report recently (perhaps when I was searching for issues which might have lead to your advice), but couldn't reproduce it. Just tried again, and it only seems to occur if configured not to load the Quickstarter. With the Quickstarter running, there is no crash, possibly because LibreOffice doesn't actually exit.

I hadn't experienced that one either, but can reproduce after adding the specific printer mentioned in Comment 33. It seems I happen to have a printer which doesn't trigger that crash.

Thanks for the links. I was sure you had your reasons; more surprised not to have encountered problems when you were so definitely against that particular version. I guess I've just been lucky that my particular configuration has avoided these so far ;o)

I'll certainly take a look at installing that.
