French popup

Hi folks,

I'm experiencing a problem with a popup in the English version of LibreOffice.

I keep getting the "Aide du Correcteur Terminologique" popping up
IN FRENCH. At least this is what title of the help screen in french. I don't read french so Googling is no help either.

The actual popup has the term "remplacement des terms 'etranger" on the top display and I simply wish to either delete or disable this feature.

thanks,

  b.

Which version of LO are you using? And what is your OS? Also, can you be
more specific about when the French pop-up occurs so we can try to mimic
the behavior.

Personally I have not seen this behavior some I am puzzled why this
happened.

LO v.3

Debian Linux

Sometimes it doesn't occur in new documents. When it does occur it happens about 2-4 times per sentence. For example, if I type
"Now is the time" it will pop up on the word time in the context Now is the. It doesn't seem to recognize the word time or has a problem with it and activates.

I hope this is helpful. I'm sorry I can't provide more specifics.

Can you tell me where to disable/uninstall it?

Do you have multiple languages installed or the French help pack
installed? I assume you installed LO from the repository. I am guessing
that having multiple languages or help packs is possibly confusing LO.

The only other possibility is I can think of is to check the language
settings (TOOLS>>OPTIONS>>Language Settings>>Languages and make sure all
the settings are correct for your location.

Truthfully, i am very puzzled because I could not find an obvious
feature or bug that relates to this.

Could you check if you have the extension Language Tool installed,
that may come from here. Otherwise, could you also check for the
language of the document or paragraphe when the dialog pop up.

Kind regards
Sophie

I had to install an English dictionary (Canadian) and probably installed a few others for occasional use of a foreign word. So I probably have a French dictionary installed. I can't see where to see what dictionaries and options are installed.

Under Tools/Options/Language Settings/
I have the default settings for US and Canadian English.

Under Writing Aids there is the
Light Proof Grammar Checker (dicollect_fr_FR) which was turned on
and I have since turned off without any effect.

Also there is a Grammar Checking French option which seems to be present but there's no way to turn that off.

Also under Tools/Add Ons/
there is a Correcteur Terminologique submenu with a lot of options in French. No way to know what that's about.

Is this any help?

Yes, we are making some progress  This one might be what you're
searching for. Under Tools > Extensions manager, you should find one
called Correcteur Terminologique. Click on it and you should normally
be able to disable or uninstall it, if not, please come back here and
we will tell you how to remove it.

Kind regards
Sophie

Here might be the solution - it was emailed privately to me

Greetings.
The "Correcteur terminologique" is an extension distributed by the
french government to normalize texts by replacing english terms by the
correct french terms.
AFAK the only one time where it was available to public was with the
MimOOo dvd image.
Just uninstall or deactivate th extensions.

JFL

Though I am a French civil servant, I can only encourage to uninstall that bloody extension which I find somewhat intrusive.

I can confirm the message Bill gets is from that extension specifically.

HTH,

No the extension Language Tool is not installed under Tools/Extention Manager.

The Pop Up has five little windows showing:

Terme estranger: time
Contexte: Now is the time
Domain: Sports
Terms Francais: reprise
Terms Francais retenu: reprise

When enabled I now notice there is also an extra tool bar with icons for a squiggle, an X, a tick, and a finger.

A mouseover on these icons reveals:
Activer la correction terminologique en cours de frappe
Desactiver la correction terminologique en cours de frappe
Verifer tout la document
Verifier la selection

When I disable the Correcteur Terminolgique in Tools/Extensions Manager as instructed and restart LO the problem goes away and the extra toolbar/icons are no longer visible.

NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! THIS IS THE SOLUTION!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!
It was so annoying.
