General Input Output Error

I did a clean install of Ubuntu 16.04 yesterday and now cannot open any database files. When I open any .odb file U get the error message "General Error. General input/output error."

Other files open normally.

I tried removing the config file but this does not solve the problem

a few hits on DDG

I haven't read through them all but a few suggestions posted

Cheers

Thanks, Tim.

I did actually do a search before posting to the list. Nobody has described quite the problem I have though.

First check file permissions, should be read/write, I/O error can occur due to insufficient privileges since it's a new Ubuntu install.

I can't open half of search results from link below.

Didn't read your previous mails and don't know if that was discussed already, but that's how I fixed it. Although, you might have different I/O error.

After fiddling for some time and seeing that there is no option to install a new database, or view data sources, I remembered that from some reason Ubuntu does not install the base component by default. Installing the base component fixed the problem.
