Has anyone used RapidShare for sharing ISO files?

I was thinking that seems the only place that may allow these large files to have a home for sharing.

I want to have a place that could be a home for the LibreOffice DVD ISO files so they can be shared with others who can download and burn DVDs.

My hosting company will not allow files larger than 700+ MB and the two DVD versions [3.3.3 and 3.4.1] of LibreOffice are over 3.4 GB in size. The account has not issues of having 100 GB of executable files online but if I have any ISO files, then they say that I am a repository and it is not allowed.

My email account[s] is limited to under 500 MB file size even though I have one that has a 1 GB inbox/outbox size. So I have problems with getting these files to anyone.

Does anyone have any suggestions on low-cost or free places to share these LibreOffice ISO files?

Hi

Has anyone used RapidShare for sharing ISO files?

Never used, what about SourceForge or LO main site?

Download/burn a DVD outside of your office and take to your office maybe?

Hi

Has anyone used RapidShare for sharing ISO files?

Never used, what about SourceForge or LO main site?

SourceForge has file size limits that will not allow for DVD size files. I have tried them and that is how I know this.

The issue with the main LO site is "how do I get the .iso file there"? The only way I know is to give FTP access to my files and they download ALL of the files in ALL of the folders THEN they create the ISO file[s] and place them on their servers. It has been months since I have heard anything about having the ISOs on the LO site, since just before the CMS system was offered. Right now, the CMS version of the NA DVD is being rebuilt and it will be only one line [so far] 3.3.x. The current version of the NA DVDs at the LibreOffice-NA.US testing portal has 3.3.3 Windows and Windows-Linux-Mac install versions with the same for the 3.4.1 installs. That makes 4 DVDs that could be available for download and burning.

I have kept that testing portal as up-to-date as I can. Right now, with my broadband access, my upload speed takes about 7 hours or more to upload a full set of Windows, Linux [.deb and .rpm], and Mac [PPC and Intel], installs to the portal. The CMS server system will be great, when the pages are online and fully edited to the point that the LibreOffice-NA.US portal DVD pages are. The 3.3.3 pages on that CMS system should be ready by the end of August, and hopefully before then. But, after the W-L-M version for 3.3.x installs is ready, then there will need to be one for the 3.4.x line and the Windows-only versions for those who do not want to download a DVD .iso file has the other OSs and is about twice the file size. 3.3.3 installs - Windows-only is about 1.9 GB in size, while Windows-Linux-Mac is about 3.9 GB in size. Windows-only users would rather not download the extra 2 GB of file size, or at least I would not if I had the option not to.

That does not help people who are in a different town, county, state, or country, from my location.

I am trying to offer the .iso files to those who would like to have it. Go to LibreOffice-NA.US and see what was created for the users by our North American Community DVD project team. We created a set of DVDs that have as much as we could think of and find that people would/may need BESIDES the install file[s]. Documentation, Dictionaries, Extensions, Templates, Artwork, etc., etc.. All in one place, on one DVD. 3.3.3 - Windows-only or Windows-Linux-Mac install DVD versions. 3.4.1 - Windows-only or Windows-Linux-Mac install DVD versions.

I would be happy to print and ship copies to users, but due to regulations at my handicapped housing apartment building I cannot do a business out of my apartment. I am printing labels directly onto the media and handing them out to people and businesses locally, but I cannot do any business out of my place.

We need to be able to have an online place for the users to be able to download the .iso files and burn there own copies. We also have the DVD label, DVD case cover and case insert online for those users. We have a brochure as well for our users to be downloaded and printed as needed.

I was not aware of the size issues.

The folders that hold the files for that are used to create the DVDs,
use the following space on a Linux formated drive:

3.3.3
Windows only - 1.9 GB
Windows, Linux [deb, rpm], Mac [PPC, Intel] - 3.7 GB

3.4.1
Windows only - 1.8 GB
Windows, Linux [deb, rpm], Mac [PPC, Intel] - 3.4 GB

The DVDs have a larger space need due to the formatting type.
3.3.3 has two Windows installs all-language and multi-language
3.4.1 has only one Windows install "multi-language".

Windows - 8 help packs plus the install file - 9 total for 3.4.1 and 10 for 3.3.3

Linux - deb/rpm/32-bit/64-bit - 8x4 help packs and 7x4 language packs
60 files total plus the install files - 64 files total

Mac - PPC/Intel - have 14 total language pack files, but no help packs - 16 files total.

Plus all the dictionaries, documentation, extensions, templates, artwork, etc., etc..

That takes a lot of file space.

Do no know that one.

Will check it out tomorrow, but most seems to have a limit that will not allow CD and DVD size ISOs to be stored.

these LibreOffice ISO files?

As an interim, if not permanent measure, can you distribute it on a P2P
network, as a torrent?

Hmm... what would happen if you put the ISOs into a zip container?

About putting it on the web somewhere: I've heard a lot of good things about Spideroak (https://spideroak.com/). They'll certainly have no problems with whatever you put on there. Although, if you want more than 2 GB, you'll need to pay 10$ a month. So that might not be what you're looking for.
The other method is of course BitTorrent. But that's only going to be working well if enough people are downloading it at the same time.

Another question: What do you mean by "Libreoffice DVD"? The installers are just 217 and 188 MB large. So where do the other 3.1 GB come from?

3.7 GB as an ISO
3.4 GB as a zipped file.

Go to LibreOffice-NA.US for a complete answer to that question. The DVDs are browser based and they are on that testing portal for use. The DVDs are "offline" versions of what is on the testing portal.

LibreOffice North American Community DVD project has created this set of DVDs that has the install files, help packs, and language packs for US English, Great Britain English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Brazil Portuguese, and Hebrew. Also included on the DVD[s] are all the known .oxt dictionary files, many extensions, many templates and sample files, artwork, documentation, and other items that create a DVD that has almost everything a LibreOffice user might want or need.

Over time, the pages from the testing portal will be recreated on the CMS system
http://north-america.libreofficebox.org/

Hopefully the first version will be up and running [fully edited] by the end of August. That version will be 3.3.x Windows-Linux-Mac. On the testing portal, along with .iso files we have

3.3.3
Windows-only version
Windows-Linux-Mac version

3.4.1
Windows-only version
Windows-Linux-Mac version

It will take time to get all 4 versions re-created with the CMS system specs, and have those .iso files available to the user base. I want to have a place for the current .iso files till the new ones are available through the CMS system that Libreoffice.org has placed online for the different teams across the globe.

I have a very low upload speed - about 120 KB/s, 2 to 3 time that of dial-up - so I need to have the .iso files somewhere that has a better bandwidth for people to download. I do not think people will want to wait 9 hours for a P2P or Torrent to download to their system coming better, but residential uploading is very limited.

I "need" a place that can handle broadband downloads of the .iso files to the users. I cannot provide that with my resources through my connection.

Did you get my direct email on this?

Yes.
will send answer directly.

I want to have a place that could be a home for the LibreOffice DVD ISO

If you can get the files on the LibreOffice distribution servers, then
they are automatically replicated
around the world to the different LibreOffice mirrors.
I think this would be the straightforward solution.

One thing you can do is provide a list of the files in the ISO, along
with filesize.
I am interested to see what exactly is inside the ISOs.
If you already created a Wiki page for this, please direct me to it.

Several web hosting providers offer 'unlimited bandwidth'. You can get
people to offer
part of this unlimited bandwidth (my webhosting offers me 'unlimited',
which I would love
to put it to use).

I am new to this DVD ISO discussion and I do not know the details
(what is included in the ISO,
individual file sizes, etc), so please give as much details as possible.
If we can position this ISO as the official distribution files for offline use,
then it's easy to get the on the libreoffice download servers, and
then they are mirrored for free around the world.

I have used RapidShare only for our MontelCD because free account has a limit of 1000 Mb.
MontelDVD is currently hosted on Sourceforge

Both Rapidshare and Sourceforge will not allow a 3.x GB size of file on their system[s]. I have tried.
CDs are in that file limit, but not DVDs.

Someplace must allow DVD ISO to be stored.

Are you sure? Look this url...

Hi
I was wondering if Tim could leave instructions so that someone with faster
upload could pull the things together and then add it to the normal downloads
part of the TDF servers (although accessed from a different web-page
obviously). If his methods of work are anything like mine that would be almost
impossible.
