Help with writer files

Everything was working great until two days ago, I can no longer read any
of my saved files in doc format.
It opens into garbled text like this:

Documents that were created in the past week open up with no issues,
just my previously saved documents converted from word are the issue.

Any help is appreciated

​Andrew, to me this sounds more like an encoding problem than an LO problem​
​ - you would normally want your documents to be encoded in utf.8. What
operating system are you using ? If Linux, this web page might prove
