[IMPORTANT] please fix translation bugs by 4.1.2 rc1

Hi,

Translation deadline for LibreOffice 4.1.2 rc1 is 2013-09-01. I
downloaded translations from Pootle today and ran pocheck on them. The
result is here:
http://dev-www.libreoffice.org/l10n/error-report/report-4.1.txt

Could you please fix bugs by 2013-09-01? Failing to do so will require
me to do that, that means I'll have to delete faulty translations
(that you may reintroduce later) so really, it is not ideal. Please
understand the importance of these bugs, they cause runtime issues. I
know that many of these bugs have been there for ages, but now we have
a tool to find them, so it is a good time to fix them.

Here is the list of affected locales:
am as bn-IN bo brx bs cy dgo dz el fa gu he hi id it ka km kn ko kok
ks ku lt mai mk ml mn mni mr my ne nl nn nr nso oc om or pa-IN pl

Thanks,

Hi Andras

I am a bit surprised to see

ERROR: Style name translations must be unique in:
/home/timar/libreoffice-master/translations/source/pt-BR/sw/source/ui/utlui.po
Language: pt-BR
Duplicated translation is: Título
See STR_POOLCOLL_*

Because it was fixed in LO 3.4, and I have it well transtaled as "Título
principal" in LO 4.1.0 .

Now I can't find "Titulo principal" in LO 4.1 anymore, and thus it
confirms the error.

Anyway, I fixed it as in pt-PT and it will become "Título do documento".

Regards

Olivier

Me again

With respect to math symbols such as

ERROR: Math symbol names must not contain spaces.
File:
/home/timar/libreoffice-master/translations/source/pt-BR/starmath/source.po
Language: pt-BR
English: strictlylessthan
Localized: estritamente menor que

These strings appears in the Symbol catalog dialog box and are correctly
displayed in 4.1.0.

Why spaces are not allowed? I wonder if there is a formal translation of
them... Are unicode symbols translatable?

Hi
I could easily be wrong but i thought we had agreed that avoiding spaces is good policy anyway?

Also that there is no real alternative that works for all languages.  So CamelCase could be used by most languages but some might have to use - or _ instead?

CamelCase is like Title Case in having a capital letter at the start of each word but just has the spaces between words removed.  It makes things very easy to read, once you have got used to it (if your language allows it), but neatly avoids problems that spaces, _  and other special characters sometimes have in computing.

Why spaces are not allowed?

Did you try to insert it? Was it displayed correctly? According to my
tests it wasn't. So I recommend you use estritamentemenorque, or leave
symbol names in English.

Done for Italian.

Now "Intestazione" differs from "Titolo" to avoid problems.

This is also a confirmation to me. I saw the same problem in
galician... how it was possible?

Hi Anton,

This is also a confirmation to me. I saw the same problem in
galician... how it was possible?

Honestly, I don't know. It happened to you and to Olivier, but
definitely not to everyone. If you have plenty of time, you can check
the git log, and locate the time when it went wrong, and maybe draw
some conclusion. Now that we have the tool, we can check translations
after an upgrade (say 4.1 -> 4.2), and we can detect, if there are
problems with the upgrade process.

Best regards,
Andras

but LibreOffice users will not encounter them, because from now on I
will delete all faulty translations with the help of pocheck tool. See

Duplicated translation is: Titolo

Heading and Title are translated in the same way, "Titolo", presently I have
no alternatives.

I can only follow the French way: Title > Titre principal

My only comment would be that it works well with our users, they
understand it correctly and make the difference between the two sort of
title styles.

Thanks Sophie for your quick reply, I think we will adopt the same solution

We could translate "heading" with "intestazione" and "title" with
"titolo", although this could be misleading for some users. I do not see
a simple solution, as in everyday language these are both called
"titolo" in Italian.

Hi Italo

I've put in this specific case Title > "Titolo principale" (presently one
occurrence only), like French, and "Heading" > "Titolo"

"Intestazione" is used for "Header"

I think this is now the solution with less problems for the user.
