Well, that was a waste of three afternoons... I go abroad for 3 weeks and somehow a whole lot of translated strings went down the tube. Or did the developers decide things were too boring for the translators and played with the string names again? I certainly noticed a whole lot of really helpful ~ > _ changes...

Now I got that out of the way... I see Impress is now handled via Pootle, could someone enable that for gd please and import the existing translation so I can maintain it there please?

Also, before I ask about enabling iOS for gd - is there a language selection menu in iOS Impress? iOS does not support most locales, including gd, so if there's no way of selecting the UI language manually for users, there's not much point in me translating it. Anyone know? I don't have an iPhone to test on.

Dialogs keep getting converted, and that just brings change from
LO-specific mnemonic-marker to glade/gnome/other-projects mnemonic
marker. Also some strings just happen to change.

I know you're basically a one-man team, but there's nothing to be done
about this.

I like it when people assume stuff... you try doing your email on Malawian internet.

And it's not just about being a one man team. Every time you make someone or a team re-translate existing stuff, you introduce new opportunities for mistranslations, especially since we're working off English which is excrutiatingly vague when it comes to the difference between POS. Never mind the damn accelerators.

Then there should be or is LO turning to the dark side too, leaving all medium to small languages in the lurch? You may have been peeved about my first point when you wrote this but since Gaelic isn't the only language affected, I don't think that 4 word answer is satisfactory.

Sure, since LO is what tells Apple what locales/regions/languages to
offer in iOS.

I don't think that 4 word answer is satisfactory.

Since there are apps which offer a manual selection, even if the platform developers are cavemen, it still means the app developers can be more intelligent than that.

I really look forward to the day German will have been replaced by Denglish and since only a handful of enthusiasts and people in remote rural areas still speak it, no commercial developer is willing to support it any longer because who cares about 190,000 speakers of an old form of German. Maybe then some folk will come off their pedestals. It's not a question of me personally not liking it, it's against the LO philosophy mate, unless it has recently been rewritten.

You might also want to consider whether the next 10 million LO users will come from Germany or Russia or whether they will be found in the far flung corners of Africa or Asia speaking languages like Yao or Bambara, most of which are not supported by Android or iOS & Co. Cutting yourself off from that userbase by saying 'it's Apple's fault' is counterproductive in more ways than one.

Nice move, just pointing a translator at the code. I like having my nose pushed in the fact I can't code for toffee even though I'd love to. But let me just point out that again, that's against the LO philosophy because the end-user equivalent of that is 'don't bother me with reporting this bug, there's the code, you fix it'.
