setup Libreoffice Version: 4.2.8.2Build ID: 420m0(Build:2)
OS Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64bit on AMD10 + 14 GB

When saving any type of libre office file ( odp, odt, ods ..)
the blue bar of the focus is on the name of the file , so that is where the focus "seems" to be, however when typing text ( tot alter the name) the type text appears over the formatlabel in the right bottom corner which is where the real focus IS

I've noticed this from time to time but I'm not convinced that it's only LO
components. It's certainly not consistent in its appearance. It may be
something connected with Ubuntu 14.04 Next time it happens to me, I'll try to
remember to log some info.

To echo what Philip says, I have also encountered it in the past, when it
has really "bugged" me. I have tried to reproduce it with my current
system LO 5.0.2.1 (32 bit) under Linux Mint 17.2 and it doesn't happen
(leastways not yet).

Which window manager are you using and which file menus (OS native or LO) under Options>LO>General>open save dialogues.
I get what you describe but only with Gimp in KDE.

I'm using the UbuntuStudio flavor of 14.04LTS with xfce. I always use the OS
dialogues rather than LO's.

I just had an occurrence of this problem or a related one. Not exactly the
same. I was using Gedit ( a text editor) and I went to 'Save as'. The focus
was in the top box, where the suggested filename is written. I didn't like the
suggested directory, so I changed the path before changing the filename.

This did not remove the apparent focus from the suggested filename (still
highlighted in blue) but when I came to rename the file, the focus wasn't there.
It had moved down to the file type box, lower right.

I tried to repeat this with LO Writer, but it didn't cause the problem.
My (vague) recollection is that this problem doesn't bother me with LO.

Ahh, i get this 'problem' all the time in many different OSes. Sometimes
after clicking or moving to elsewhere in the download/save dialogue-box it
still looks like the focus is in the file-name box/field in the top of the
dialogue-box. Of course the focus has really changed to where-ever i've
moved it too but the name remains highlighted in the colour that suggests
it is still the focus.

I've just never paid much attention to it because i am quite used to such
problems from all my years of Windows usage. Also i'd assumed that it's
probably fashionable in OSes or serves some purpose i'm not aware of or is
a user-error (ie a pebkac).

Now that it has been raised i might take more notice of which apps in which
OSes, but i am fairly sure i've had this in Xp and Win7 as well as various
LTSes of Ubuntu. I'm slightly less sure of having noticed it in Kubuntu
but that is probably my lack of awareness at the time.
