If I remember right, some extensions are part of the package itself.
One of the videos I have talked about bundling the most common extension with the install, so you do not have to go add them. My Ubuntu copy has PDF import listed in the Extension Manager, and I do not remember installing it. I could have, but I do not remember doing that.
To be honest, I got most of my extensions from OOo, but Oracle has made a mess of the pages and it it not working half the time. So it is going to get hard to get extensions and templates from their side anymore.
Here is the basic list of Extensions on the North American DVD
http://libreoffice-na.us/English/extensions.html
Here is the LibrePlanet.org list of extensions
http://libreplanet.org/wiki/Group:OpenOfficeExtensions/List
I have a Mac 10.6.7 and LO 3.4 Build 5.
Apparently PDF Import is not included.
My understanding is the list in Extension Manager is only a list with links
to the Extension or the Download.
My list includes about 20 languages and the local Help for Extension Manager
will not load, so I am stuck.
BTW. Where are the Extensions kept?
Tink.
Hi
I think a lot of the Extension's devs haven't yet made them available for
LibreOffice. Apparently most/many/some of the OpenOffice ones work if you can
find them but if you could contact the devs of your favourite Extensions then
they would probably be quite keen to add them to LibreOffice's collection. I
have a feeling that it's usually pretty easy for the dev's of a particular
Extension to add it to LibreOffice's lists but just requires remembering (or
being nudged into remembering) to do it. I doubt that it's possible to do them
all from the LibreOffice's end otherwise it would probably have been done
"en-masse" already.
However i think there is already at least one that deals with importing Pdfs so
a search might help. I have one called "PDF Import 1.0.4" which has a big
Oracle logo/icon rather than the sleek elegant LibreOffice or TDF style of
logos. It opens Pdfs in Draw rather than Writer & so i can't edit text with it
(afaik). I can move around blocks of text, pictures and stuff and i think i can
add blocks of text or pictures too. I have a funny feeling that i probably
didn't need the extension at all as i seem to remember PDF import being added to
the main package recently.
Hopefully someone will give a better answer but have you tried right-clicking a
pdf to open with LibreOffice to see if it just works anyway?
Regards from
Tom
Sorry. The PDF Importer is part of the package.
If you look at the file types you can Open, you will see that PDF's are
included and it works.
I now need to find "Convert Text to Numbers" and the "Grammar Checker"
though I am not sure of their names.
There is a very obscure place for filing Templates, The Extension folder
seems to be even more obscure.
Tink.
It does not look like Sun or Oracle put a MacOSX version out.
OpenOffice.org site had a good list, but Oracle messed with the web pages after they took it over, so now it is not working half the time.
This is the Link of the List that NA Community DVD project made.
[Windows - Linux - MacOSX version of the DVD]
http://libreoffice-na.us/English/extensions.html
This is the OOo / Oracle link, but it keeps having page errors
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/
Where is your list?
I personally have over 500 MB if extension files in my extension folders. I grabbed as many as I thought I might use, when Sun was still running the OOo site. Thought I did not grab any Mac versions if there were platform specific versions, since I use Linux and Windows.
If you want to see a lot of different language dictionaries and such, the NA DVD extension page has over 180 localized .oxt files. About 25 or so localized Spanish dictionaries are included.
I have not tried the version 3.4 RC's yet. I am sticking with 3.3.2 for now, or until 3.4 comes out the first of June.
Please check out the NA DVD testing portal http://libreoffice-na.us/ We have tried to make our DVDs [tested online through the links] with as many extra features we though that our North American users might want added to the LibreOffice install files. Documentation, Extensions and Dictionaries, Templates and Sample files, Galleries/Images and Artwork, plus extra software. We have the Windows-Linux-MacOSX version and the Windows-only version in English, plus the "alpha" test of the Spanish version.
If you need some Extension that is not on the NA list, let me know and I may have it in my personal extension folders.
If you would like to see other Extensions, etc., in the NA lists, let me know. We may add it with our next DVD[s] publication. We are working on getting the 3.3.2 installs ISO files online, and publish the links, in the next day or so. Sometime in June, hopefully, we should have 3.4.x version online.
Sorry. The PDF Importer is part of the package.

I think the reason for not having those extensions transferred "automatically" was due to licensing reasons. I think I remember, that LibO only wants to have truly open extensions. But I can be wrong.

That's the default behaviour. PDF is a format to describe a graphical layout of a document. And for graphics, Draw is the correct component. It is not meant to edit a file extensively. You can add a few lines of text in a form (I did this just last week) and it works well. If you need to change the whole text, just ask the original creator for a editable file.

Yes, this is the problem with both the extensions and templates. Even worse, many of these extensions only carried the author's name with no email or url to track them down.
Cheers
Marc

Hi
Google or FaceBook can be alarmingly good at finding people, unless they have a
common name such as Tom Davies, John Smith and even worse if they don't have a
FaceBook account I googled myself but got bored after 6 pages of people with
my name. I haven't joined FaceBook as i don't need to show-off how many
"friends" (acquaintances?) i don't/do have

Many thanks for the links.
I have downloaded them, but where on my Mac, Snow Leopard, do I put them so
that LO 3.4.5 will find them?
Tink.
Hi.
I down loaded them into a folder I labelled Downloads>Install>LO (only for future reference).
Then in LO got to menu Tools>Extension Manager..., select Add and navigate to the folder with the extension and select the extension to add.

Yes, but it also can be used instead of proper looking for someone. My High School reunion people could not find my for my last one, since they could not find me on the social networks. They failed to Google my name. My phone number and my email address had not changed, but they did not contact me that way either. By the time I found out that they "could not find me" it was too late to be a part of the dress-up sit-down dinner. SO, if you need to find someone, please look in as many ways as possible. Just because he or she is not on/in the social networks does not mean they cannot be found some other way. Also, if someone claims to be Darryl Traverstein, it does not mean "she" is a "he" or "he" is a "she" pretending to be a "he", and/or the correct Darryl Traverstein. It can be difficult getting the right person. We have had too many people pretending to be what/who they are not and causing problems for others thinking that they can get away with it. So make sure you search many ways and verify the person's identity.
I am semi lucky. My last name is not a proper spelling, and was made up by Ellis Island personnel since my great grand father had a name that was too common. He either had to take the new last name or face rejection.
Many thanks for the links.

For Windows and Ubuntu, I double click on them, since the .oxt file uses LibreOffice's as their application. You should then get the Extension Manager to open up and install them properly.
I did not know LO was at 3.4.5, since 3.4 is in its RC2 stage and should not have gone that high yet.
When I open the Extension Manager it takes me to the User>Documents folder
which is incorrect.
Sorry, LO 3.4 Build 5 is the correct version.

For me it takes me to my "timothy" user folder for Ubuntu.
This is the "default" folder for the computer, like yours would be
documents
I keep all my .oxt files on a folder on a second physical drive.
My full path is:
big-drive/LibreOffice--folders/Non-DVD-related-folders/libreoffice-extensions-galleries-templates/LibreOffice__extensions-and-addons
where "big-drive" is the name for the second physical drive
I have no trouble adding any Extension in that folder, but actual extensions will be "recorded" in the hidden folder called .libreoffice/3/user/extensions/. . . . . ., if I remember correctly. There may be other folders involved, but I do not know where they are on my system [off hand].

the folders name is uno_packages.
But for the rest, your explanation is correct.
