Hi
I think best advice is to just stick with the 4.0.5 for now
A quick google search for "Microsoft Windows Search Host Protocol" gave me a few sites although i have no idea how much i would trust any of these
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Search
(normally i use Wikipedia to get an overview but use the external links to check the background sources and maybe the history of the page)

This answer looked reasonable but mostly because it's easy to reverse it if nothing seems to happen or if it makes things worse
"Indexing (supposedly) makes searching faster.
If you right click on each drive letter, select Properties. You will see
a box marked "Index this drive for faster searching". Uncheck the box.

Also these links to quickly skim-read to see if anyone else came up with good ideas, or just to get more of an idea of what is going on

Typically when suffering from a problem inside LibreOffice that no-one else is suffering from then it can be good to just quickly rename your User Profile

Again it's easy to reverse if it didn't fix anything.
I tend to find Windows doesn't like to make it easy to use LibreOffice. If you right-click on a file and try the "Open With" then it's reluctant to list any non-Microsquish products. Also with their tool for setting the default programs for things, or in their web-browser for setting the default html editor. So if i have the LO "QuickStarter" open in the system-tray then i use that, otherwise i use the "Start" button (or whatever they renamed it in whichever version of Windows you are using (errr but seems to have vanished in Win8)). So, something like
"Start" - "All Programs" - LibreOffice - LibreOffice
and then drag and drop the file onto the grey area. Alternatively after opening LibreOffice use LibreOffice's
File - Open
and then navigate to the file. With Win7 i have to scroll up and down the "All Programs" list to try to find it. It's not made clear that it's a list you can scroll until you roll the mouse wheel up and down. There are a few places to try it before finding the right list that is scrollable.
Hmm, once you do find LibreOffice in the menus then you can right-click on it and choose "Send to desktop" to create a short-cut on your desktop and that makes it MUCH easier in the future.
After a few times of trying these long-winded ways of opening a file in LibreOffice it seems to start appearing in the right-click menu. I suspect there is a faster way to get it in there but i don't know how to do that
Maybe it would be good to post a bug-report despite being the only one apparently suffering from the problem
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport
I think the international translators had another thread about problems with specifically the Swedish version. They seem to be working on a couple of very minor issues for almost all languages and although that is nothing to do with this both problems might get solved at the same time. Still, it's better to post a bug-report as it is reasonably easy to do so even if it does seem a bit scary until you have done one. The guide asks for a lot of information but you can give most of that later on in subsequent posts to the bug-report.
Perhaps 2 bug-reports because not being able to open Libreoffice at all seems like a fairly major blocker!
