[Libreoffice] Translation plans for LO-3.3 and future

Hi Petr,

(forwarding for info to l10n@libo)

thanks for the update - all correct, but one addition:

We might be able to provide a pootle server for 3.3 as well. But all
people who are fine with directly pulling po-files and sending these
to the mailing list, should go on as suggested.

André

Why not use Transifex?

Many projects has used Transifex platform to provide localization work, suc
h
as Fedora, Xfce, MeeGo, LXDE... It is better for translators to view,
download and keep track of the po files. It also provides a easy-to-use
online editor for independent translators.

Hi,

Why not use Transifex?

Well, we are not bound to pootle, we are actually free to choose
whatever we want, but:

- translation teams coming over from OOo know pootle
- current tooling uses translate toolkit, as pootle does
- we have people available who can setup and maintain pootle server that
is able to handle 500k+ words

my very private (ok, germanophone project) reason: pootle handles xliff
quite well.

All the reasons you mentioned for Transifex, are valid for pootle as well
(ok, I'm not suer about the VCS-integration).

regards,
André

The mozilla people already did Pootle-VCS (SVN) integration since a
while ago, but currently not for the application e.g: Firefox, but
other projects like addons.mozilla.org and some others. I guess
because the application (Firefox) still need conversion using moz2po
or something like that, while addons.mozilla.org project is using po
files.

I am a member of Indonesian Mozilla Localization Projects, and would
like to help for Indonesian LibreOffice as well.

For small revisions, I'm using Pootle.

Ciao

Well, it doesn't really matter what the platform will be used as long as it
can help translators to finish their work. Pootle is OK for me.

The feature I admire most with Transifex is that translators can "watch" a
project or a translation resource (po or ts file) to be informed by mail
that the project or the resource is updated. I don't have to check the
project or po file myself, the Transifex will do it for me. It makes
translators be more focus on work.

The minor one is that if you are doing the translation work, you can lock
the po file to inform others that you are working on it to prevent double
work. (I don't know if Pootle does this or not)

That's why I suggest Transifex.
