Linux User Groups

Hi esteemed mates,

Pardon my off-topic post, but has anyone found a good Linux forum to
discuss Ubuntu and/or Knoppix issues?

I'm trying to make RecordMyDesktop work on a Knoppix Live distribution on a
flash drive.

I emailed Klaus Knopper (Knoppix creator) but I just got a robo
response that he can't respond to emails.

Thanks so much.

Charles.

I can't speak for Knoppix, but Ubuntu has a users' group and email
list at "Ubuntu user technical support, not for general discussions"
<ubuntu-users@lists.ubuntu.com>.

They do not like top-posts (like this one), so be aware.

Lots of good stuff here: https://ubuntuforums.org/

A few years ago I asked a question to one of those user groups, and I received no answer. Do not remember the issue, so I must have worked around the problem[s] myself.

Hopefully, whichever group I looked into, will be more responsive to "newbie" questions, or those that are from a "regular" user with no experience with the issues/problems I had.

Personally, I never heard of "RecordMyDesktop", by name, before. Though I remember seeing a few weeks ago some other package name that does that type of function. So, do you have to use that package or can you use some other one?

I run Ubuntu as my default desktop OS since version 9.04 or 9.10. That desktop is currently running 14.04LTS, while my laptops [3 now] run 16.04LTS. All 3 laptops dual boot to Win10 [currently] Since I rarely turn on the desktop anymore, I use the newest laptop [17.3 inch display with 1TB drive] as my default system. [desktop has a 22 inch monitor with 6.25TB of internal drives]

Charles:

You might want to look at http://www.linuxquestions.org/

That has high level general Linux stuff, and a wide variety of sub-forums on
the various distributions.

Hi all:

Other program that you could install for same use is "Kazam" that you
can find in the Ubuntu repositories. I've used it and always work well.

Regards,

Then the people there are helping other more, which it was not what it seemed a few years ago. This was my experience.

I once installed some of the "Studio" packages on version 12.xx or 13.xx. Will have to look into those included packages again. I may find some interesting packages that I could use once in a while.

Try googling for a local Linux users group. Short of that, there are active
groups in Phoenix and Portland with email lists you can post questions and
get help.

The best place is the Debian forum; other places are a bit colder,
even arsh, like the arch(on)linux forum.
