Hi

I recently posted a link from LQ regarding a UK thesaurus. A number of people made useful suggestions and I also made suggestions to the poster but, unfortunately, the problem never got resolved.

As the poster should know, the answer is officially, no, LibreOffice does not read “this forum”. A while ago though there was a discussion here about another LQ post and the negative image a particular member gave LO. I noticed his next post was dealt with in a concise manner which nipped in the bud the negativity.

The reason for this post is that I think people with LO knowledge should spend more time looking at LQ. An option is to have some kind of official LO representation. I don't know whether this is feasible or practical but linux distros have their own forums (is it feasible for LQ to host a LO forum?). In most cases this means that reps from the distros field questions (is this practical?). This would give a “one stop shop” for Linux related LO problems.

The other option is simply to hop on board and search. Some people still refer to openoffice so a search on “libre” might only filter some of the posts. A search for “office” throws up several non-LO related posts. But, LO probably gets mentioned 1-2 times a week so it is not a huge drain on people's time.

I do tend to spend a fair bit of time at LQ and throw in the odd pearl where I can. But, Linux and LO are hobbies for me. I ain't an expert. I try and point LQ members at this list (not sure whether this is frowned on!) but some people don't want to come. All help appreciated.

Yeh, LQ is an excellent centralised place.

There are a LOT of articles about LibreOffice (and some on OpenOffice too)
on different websites and their comments sections often used to have
ridiculous claims that LibreOffice/OpenOffice 'cant do' this or that and
often citing that as a reason why people 'have to' use MS Office instead.
Of course it is usually something really trivially easy to do, such as
clicking on one of the big "A" buttons on the tool-bar or Ctrl B to make
things bold instead of hunting for the big "B" button!

I have sometimes been strongly tempted to go through their whole
registration process purely to post a link to the LibreOffice "Get Help"
page so people have the full range of choices for official support.

Also, as Tim points out there are many different distros each offering
their own mailing list or forum support. I think most of them probably
have a link to the "Get Help" page for LibreOffice but it'd be nice if
there was some way of checking each of the main distros to see if there
already is something or an efficient way of doing it so that people can see
it easily. I think Ubuntu do it by having such External Links in their
"Community Documentation" pages.

I agree with Tim that probably the most efficient way to reach out to the
wider world is to help out at LinuxQuestions.
