Loading styles

Hi.
You can load styles from another document, I have created styles to use for documentation of a quality system and it is possible to load the styles from one new document into an old document and then just re-style as desired to maintain consistency.

The new documents have outline numbering, outline numbering does not seem to transfer when you load styles and has to be re-defined for the document to be converted to the new styling. Is there a way to also transfer or load outline numbering from one document into another or is the best option to always start with a template that has the styles and outline numbering I want defined and then paste (unformatted) the old content into the new template and reassign the new styles.

thanks - steve

In theory you can save chapter numbering styling to your personal settings and use it in several documents. In the "Chapter Numbering" dialog you should have a drop-down button "Format" with a "Save As". if you choose a name, that name should be listed later on in a new document and you get that settings in the new document. It seems, that renaming is broken currently. So when you replace "Untitled 1" with "My Chapter", you will not see "My Chapter" in the list, but still "Untitled 1". But when you then select "Untitled 1" you will get the previous saved styling.

  or is

the best option to always start with a template that has the styles and
outline numbering I want defined and then paste (unformatted) the old
content into the new template and reassign the new styles.

Using a document template should work. It has the advantage, that you can later on edit the template to propagate changes to all documents, that are based on it. Remember, that you need to add the template via Template Manager, otherwise the document does not remember, from which template is was generated.

I have version 6.04, the renaming for the saved format is working and when I give Untitled 1 a new name it is retained.
Thankyou for your help, I mistook the function of the Format button to be like the "Apply" button in other dialogues and did not try it before.
Cheers, steve
