localization of converted dialogs for 4.3

Hi,

So a long way to go to 4.3.0 - not ?

I think it can be a nice job for people to do some preparation work wrt
the localization of converted dialogs.
Making screen shots of the current versions for example..

Can someone do a useful grep op cgit log to get all "converted * to .ui"
commits (since 4.2.0 branch off) ?

thanks,
Cor

Hi Cor,

Hi,

So a long way to go to 4.3.0 - not ?

it depends if you have to check and correct your localization or if
you're done

What will we do with them ?

you've got them in the share directory of your installation.

Cheers

As far as I can see, there is no localization started, so nothing to
check either

The idea is that the people that work in pootle, having to translate
dialogs that are sometimes strange to them, can look at how it was
before the conversion to ui.

We do not have the .ui files that are in master.
And if there would be a nightly for 32bits debian, I still had to sort
out for what was added after 4.2 branch off.
Hence my request.

cheers,
Cor

For me it's time to check my translation rush for 4.2.0 and it will take
some time

ah, ok, but that's a lot of work!

I understand your request for a diff now, you're right

A much better idea would be if someone actually converted the current
strings to the new format, so that we don't have to retranslate tons of
stuff just because of minor changes like a different accelerator character.
Though Pootle will probably screw up on update anyway, so I will have to
work with my offline translation memory and, unlike Pootle, OmegaT actually
has a working fuzzy matching and doesn't screw up on alternative
translations, so it will be an nonissue.

+ a million!!!

Before 4.2, I was pretty frustrated by having to retranslate previously
translated strings, because "~" had been changed into "_", thereby creating
some 6000 (IIRC) "untranslated" words. Sometimes TM helped, but with one or
two-word strings, there were often several alternatives, so I had to chase
the previous translation down in my 4.1 installation.

Btw, Andras & Cloph already wrote a script for automatically migrating help
translations, I suppose that could be reused (or used as reference, at
least) for UI as well. I can't find the thread on list-archive for some
reason, but look for "autofix for helpIDs in libo_help in progress (was:
Automatic translations and no suggestions in Pootle)" in your own email
(around 27 Nov 2013).

Therefore I have the idea to improve our future 'experience'

I think we can get it by comparing directories for 4.2 and master.
The resulting list of new files is here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jjnrty3ewmunc98/new_ui_files.txt
Or do you need anything else?

Yes - some more will follow before end of May (*), but most will be there.

Thanks, this already helps a lot. Still it would be easier to track with
the git commit message ("convert foo:foo dialog to .ui".

But thanks again for this!

I avoided this problem the following way:
- Saved a zip of the previous version
- find . -name "*po" | xargs sed -i -e 's/~/_/g'
- fed the resulting files to a new TM in Lokalize and asked for
automatic substitution.

The "multiple translations for the same short expression" problem stayed
(and probably resulted in regressions I don't even know of), but the
longer expressions clicked into place like a charm, I only had to
unfuzzy them :).

Maybe you all could do something like this next time.
