Localization of smart quotes feature in LibreOffice 4.2

Hi,

I have few questions about smart quotes feature and LibreOffice 4.2

There are strings in pootle to localize smart quotes, see double [1] and
single [2] in Pootle.

So, if I localize these strings to use « (and ») for double quotes, will
they work in document writing? or it's just used for setting's menu.

I want to customize Catalan quotes (double and single) and enable them by
default. How can be this be achieved?

the ASCII characters that you type in on the keyboard that shall be
replaced with proper typographic quotes if enabled. IMHO they should
never be translated.

The actual replacement is determined from the locale data that is not
subject to pootle. In this case
i18npool/source/localedata/data/ca_ES.xml Markers QuotationStart/End and
DoubleQuotationStart/End, or see
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/tree/i18npool/source/localedata/data/ca_ES.xml#n44

You could create a patch and submit it to gerrit or mail it to me. Or
tell me which characters are to be used and I'll change it.

I will keep such strings as unchanged.

Probably best to remove the translatable flag from these two strings in
the .ui file to get rid of the problem in future. I'll take a look.

I'm not sure, the setting is stored in the configuration and I don't
know if it can be preset differently for different locales.

Done, also in 4-2, should be in the next pootle update, hopefully..

Hi Eike (and others),

I tested arround this and other issues. I opened a bug requesting to update
Catalan dictonaries and related resources (locale and autocorrect data).

I'm not a developer, and I don't know how this is managed, but
shouldn't this locale dependent strings be taken from Unicode CLDR?

Found two bug reports related to this:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38395 and
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31609 -- you could voice your
support there, hopefully things get moving once a critical mass has
expressed their support.
