Is anyone able to open Lotus Wordpro files in any Version 3.4?
3.4.2 would generated a i/o error and 3.4.3 give me a blank file.

I have managed to open Lotus WordPro files. I use 3.4.2 on Mac. The standard file that Libo gives to test Lotus WordPro import works. I have found that graphics don't get imported! Text does.
If you have lots of .lwp files your bet option is to use KeyView for Lotus on the PC, or if you have Lotus WordPro, export to MS Word. Note also the First FileView 2.2 and QuickView Plus on the PC will also open .lwp files.

Lotus won't install on Windows 7 and we have 1000's of active lwp files
that need modification regularly, so a viewer won't work.
3.3.4 works, so the filters must have been changed for 3.4.x

Why not install Virtual PC? I have a client who had to do this and it works very well.
You have found one of the major deficiency of Microsloth Winblows. I use Lotus Wordpro for 99% of my word processing, saving OpenOffice/LibreOffice for basic documents of less than 5 pages. Of course, since I use eCS (otherwise known as OS/2) I have no problem with my WordPro documents. On those occasions when I must use Windows it is XP.

This sounds like an important regression so I suggest you to file a bug after checking if it isn't already filed.

I know there are workarounds, but we want to complete the switch to a
single office suite...Libreoffice.
We run XP, windows 7 and Linux in the office, so Libreoffice is
important for interoperability.

If I new anything about programming, I would.
I'll check out the "Bug Triage"

for "reporting bug",you need not to know programming

Hi
You don't need to know about programming just to report a bug. It's just like
emailing really, or a forum post. Keep the subject line extremely short and
just use keywords such as "Lotus Wordpro files, regression in 3.4.x". Then a
bit more description in the main part. Try to keep it fairly brief but
informative.
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport
It can take a long while to fix a bug and there are a lot of reports to work
through so don't expect instant results! You probably can do some Entry Level
tasks to help the devs but it might not make your bug-report get seen much
faster as there is so much to do.

Most of us pick some other area to work in such as Documentation or something
but if you can develop skills or help the devs then that helps the project
hugely.

They may have fixed it in 3.4.3. I just opened the sample .lwp from:
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/new-features-and-fixes/
Lotus Word Pro import filter* (sample)
in both LO 3.3.4 and LO 3.4.3 (confusing isn't it? glad I'm not
dyslexic) and both are identical. Note: those are both linux versions. I
may have a 3.4.2 on another machine (linux and Windows) & see if that
experiences any problems.
I just tested in LO 3.4.2 (Windows - Win7 and WinXP) and the sample file
opens fine. Can you please test that file?
LibreOffice 3.4.2
OOO340m1 (Build:203)
I'm confused... according to this:
<https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21411413>
[Information about SmartSuite and Organizer working on Microsoft Windows 7]
which included WordPro, it should install.
Also:

That said, if you have "1000's of active lwp" files, then you may need
to find a command line converter (or consultant) to convert them to
another format (Word?).
LO maintains a filter to open .lwp files. However, it is just that, an
'import filter'. It's not a 1-to-1 process and some formating and/or
graphics may not work. It is considerably better than anything that
Microsoft et al have to offer (as far as I know).
You should also check with IBM and ask them about import filters,
particularly for OpenOffice given that they seem to be (or want to be)
in the drivers seat for the new Apache/OpenOffice process.
Unfortunately, if/when that ever takes place, your .lwp files are likely
to be as ancient as Lotus 1-2-3 files. Good luck.
@ Declan Moriarty: note the above comment regarding 'import filter'.
Also, it will be better if you can continue to comment in this thread
rather than starting a new thread. I see your "Re: Re: Lotus Wordpro
files" post, but will keep my comments here so that we don't spawn
multiple "Lotus Wordpro files" threads. Thanks.
...
I don't think that it's really necessary, or appropriate, to use the
above - particularly on this list. LO supports multiple operating
systems, Microsoft Windows being one of them. I use linux (also test in
MS Windows), and I don't find the need to slam other OS's in the
process. What OS the user selects is their own personal choice (we now
have that option).
I totally agree NoOp.
If I have offended someone, I apologize; however, making negative comments about an OS is certainly not a personal
attack against users of said OS. I could care less what OS someone uses, I am though, entitled to my personal opinion
regarding Windows, Linux, OS/2, etc. That being said, can anyone deny that Microsoft has always made it difficult
for people to use any software that competes with something they offer? Microsoft may control the world market for
desktop operating systems; that does not make it necessarily the best available. Every iteration of Windows makes it
increasingly difficult for the average person to continue using their existing hardware. My Thinkpad T30 works fine
with XP (my T20 works fine with OS/2), do you think it will function well with Windows 7? Microsoft seems to think everyone
has a bottomless pocket and can constantly upgrade their equipment.
Don, give me a break.

Hi Brian,
I agree totally with everything you said, other than the mis-spelling in the title. Because of the things Microsoft has done over the years, I'm 95% to 98% windows free, and love using Ubuntu!!!!!!! I'm sorry if I hurt you. That was not my intent. Since there are so many Windows users yet, and some of them using LibreOffice, and since some Windows users will never ever change, I didn't want them to feel we were not hospitable to them here. I've installed Ubuntu in the last 2 years roughly on about 22 computers of friends and family. But a few people have not let me touch their computer, and become quite defensive when I even mention about Linux or Ubuntu. It is sad since there is a whole new world out there waiting for them that they will never experience!!!!!!
Don
You are. But I think you are missing my point; you might become offended
were I to refer to OS/2 as 'OhSh&t/2' or similar and then go on to offer
opinions as to why OS/2 should be banned from the earth (exaggerating
here of course).
Point is that users on this list come from all walks of life, are
global, use different/multiple OS's, *and* LO supports: Microsoft, Linux
and, Mac OS X. I see no reason to intentionally refer to Microsoft
Windows as "Microsloth Winblows", do you (now)?
...
No sweat Don...
Tell me, why Ubuntu instead of Xandros?
Also, have you had any problems converting from OpenOffice to LO?
I'm sorry if I hurt you. That was not my intent.

Okay - point taken. Should have left the respelling out.
BTW, I have to be a little thick-skinned if I'm going to use OS/2
