Hi
For anyone using or interested in using Base ...
MariaDb is a "drop in" replacement for MySql. It forked off from MySql in
much the same way as LibreOffice did from OpenOffice. It's got most of the
original MySql community and devs.
On the other hand many web-hosting companies are still using Oracle's
MySql. Plus the Postgresql people joined in with developing a native
connector for Base so Postgresql might be an easier choice for people
starting from scratch.
Back to the first hand, MariaDb is replacing MySql as the native database
program in many linux distros. I know it's in Slackware but haven't
confirmed for the others yet. So web-hosting companies might already be
using MariaDb and just calling it MySql in their marketing.

Tom
