Moving from old XP machine to new Windows 7. Trying to move Excel files to libreoffice but the files .xlr can not be found in the download program.
I think you will find that .xlr files are spreadsheet files in Microsoft Works Spreadsheet format, not in that of Microsoft Excel.
How do I move the .xlr files to the libreoffice program.
There are various ways to do this.
o If you still have access to Microsoft Works (or Microsoft Excel, which should read these), open the files there and save them in Microsoft Excel's .xls format. Works can do this. If necessary, you should be able to gain access to a copy of Excel at work, at a friend's, in a library, in an internet cafe, and so on.
o Use a web file conversion utility. Free ones are available, e.g. www.zamzar.com (which claims to convert .xlr to .xls).
o Apparently the .xlr and .xls formats are similar, and it is possible to open .xlr files as if they are .xls files. You may want to try starting LibreOffice and using File | Open... to browse to and open the files. Alternatively you could rename (preferably a copy of) the .xlr file to .xls and open that. In these cases, you would want to check all the data, formulae, and relationships to ensure they had migrated correctly.
I trust this helps.
