MySQL/MariaDB Native Linux connector for LibreOffice 4.2 and 4.3 (32 and 64 bit)

These connectors are available as Release Candidate #1. They have been tested against both MariaDB and MySQL databases. I would like to have a few more people see if these work as well as they have so far been described.
Unless I hear from someone with a reason why it does not work as it should within the next week, I will be upgrading these to final release.

Hi
Has anyone been able to test this out yet?

Is it possible to test-drive these connectors without breaking an existing
database? Errr, i'm not going to be able to test them myself so i was just
mildly curious.

I could test with LibreOffice 4.2.6 (SUSE version). Just downloaded and
will install later today. Will post comments soon.

Hi,

Has anyone been able to test this out yet?

Is it possible to test-drive these connectors without breaking an existing
database? Errr, i'm not going to be able to test them myself so i was
just mildly curious.

I just installed Dans connector on my machine with a fresh-installed MariaDB
and actual LibreOffice 4.3.
I can connect to the database and add tables as expected.

But the table show only zeros in all columns, that are not text/string-type.
I can type in new values, they get into the real table but stay displayed as
zero.
So no further test possible for now.
I'm afraid the distributed standard connector works the same wrong way, so
this might be an issue of LibreOffice 4.3 itself or opensuse.

It worked properly with my production machines with LO 4.1.

Stefan

Do you use the opensuse repositories for LibreOffice or do you download it from the LibreOffice website? This might make a difference.

Yes, opensuse-factory with current LO 4.3.2.2.

Stefan

i could try it this weekend. It will an adventure!

Opensuse makes changes in LibreOffice before putting it in their repositories. That could be the problem. Then again, you should have a mysql connector in the repositories that work with the Opensuse's version of LO. (My OS is Ubuntu, and my repositories list two mysql connectors for their version of LO with one of them being based upon python.)

Hi
Blimey!! it's good to see people taking so much more interest in Base than
we would have seen even just a year ago. Just 1 prod to bump the thread
was effective! I still think more people testing it on more systems could
help but it's been great to see so many people respond so positively!
Many thanks all!! :)))

Hi,

Now my testing environment is a vanilla install of opensuse 13.2
RC1 with latest LO. There is surely a mysql connector shipped
with (version 1.0.2). I deleted this one and added your version
1.0.4 manually.
At first sight it makes no difference to me - testing against
mysql-server 5.0 here at job.

It is kind of weird that some of my forms (made with LO 4.1) are
unusable, because some textfields are shown as numerical values
(mostly "0").
The table views are almost correct, anyhow - better than
yesterday at home...

I don't know wether the mysql connector itself is involved in
this problem...

I will do further tests with mariadb at home...

That is version 4.3.2.1 at this time.

Seemingly a problem with factory-version 4.3.2.2, see
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84315

I will do further tests with mariadb at home...

No problem with mariadb thus far with the shipped mysql connector (Version
1.0.2) and Dans version 1.0.4.

Which tasks should be tested reasonably concerning this driver update?

BTW I cannot create reports with the spoken LO-versions.
(Error: Can not activate the factory for
org.libreoffice.report.pentaho.SOReportJobFactory$_SOReportJobFactory
because java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class
org.libreoffice.report.pentaho.SOReportJobFactory$_SOReportJobFactory)

Again another problem... :frowning:

Stefan

Ok,

so I have mariabdb installed which is meant to work like a drop in
replacement for mysql. In other stuff I have done, there has been no
problem using mariadb instead of mysql.

I was able to create a simple database in mariadb and open it in base using
the direct connection. I changed some data, saved it and closed base.

I checked in the database on cli and the data had been entered. So I would
say that you could say that it works as advertised.

Hi
I think this sort of feedback is (hopefully) useful, even if it's not what
we had hoped for.

Hopefully someone might be able to help with the problems unless it's a
problem with the connector.

Hi
That sounds good! Have you tried the things that Stefan Gruber had
trouble with? If so it'd be nice to hear which OS you tried it on, which
version of LO and which version of MariasDb. That might help people
pin-point the problems Stefan has been having.

Many thanks for test-driving the connector!

I had fortune with installing those four packages containing "pentaho" in
their names, which I never had installed before in the last years.
Report builder is working now again.

The strange thing is: after removing those packages it *still* works...

Base is such a great piece of software ... potentially, because there are so
many crucial regressions again and again with every release I'm fighting
against...

I'm glad that there is an increasing number of people involved in Base and
sharing ideas here...

Stefan (waiting for the next LO/opensuse build...)

Ubuntu 12.04, libreoffice Version: 4.3.2.2 Build ID: 430m0(Build:2),
MariaDB 5.5.40

Sorry did not notice Stephan's problems. Just thought the connector for
MariaDb needed testing. but maybe the versions are wrong for the job.
