news about LibreOffice

Hi
Wow!! Just found this excellent page
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/LOWN/3
by William Gathoye

It is not always 100% perfect English but it's a great read and has some
quite compelling sections. For example;
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/LOWN/3#LibreOffice_for_Mobile_will_be_soon_a_reality
which i really hadn't realised at all. I thought there was a major blocker
preventing this and that on-top of having to re-write 100% of the coding
first. However it now seems that only 10% of the code needs re-writing!
The UI issue seems a lot less of a problem too!

I wish that instead of the issues being 1, 2, 3 they gave the date, perhaps
in reverse order such as

2014-07-07
2014-07-14
2014-07-21

but it is MUCH easier to see those things in hindsight and it probably
wouldn't have occurred to me at the time either. Luckily it is fairly easy
to set-up new pages, copy&paste contents and then set-up redirects from the
old pages.

The bit i never figure out is how to get the table-of-contents at the
beginning of the page.

Just out of curiosity can it be floated off to a different side? (Even if
it can it's probably better to keep it where it is to make it consistent
with the other wiki-pages)

It looks like a huge amount of work has gone into this and it's really
great to see it collect together information from so many mailing lists.

Good work William!

Hi
Being wiki-pages means it's possible for anyone to contribute. I like the
variety of having some "articles" quite long but others being just really
tiny snippets.

So far it's all the work of just 1 chap but i am sure he would be willing
to help people with wiki-mark-up if they did join in with things. Also
there are other people here and on the Documentation Team's mailing list
who would be able to help. Another option is for people to quietly post
their items and then leave it for the main man to find them and do some
styling.

Hello there,

The goal of LOWN (it might become a monthly thing) is to collaboratively edit news of the project for project members. People are welcome to join the effort

Best,

Charles.

Hi *

Hi  Wow!! Just found this excellent page
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/LOWN/3 by William Gathoye

Thanks!

It is not always 100% perfect English but it's a great read and
has some quite compelling sections.

Sorry, English is my 2nd foreign language (I'm a native French, and
Dutch is my 1rst foreign).

Feel free to correct me when I do some mistakes. This way, I could
improve my written skills
Btw, I made some corrections to LOWN#3 and fixed my account migration
on WikiMedia. This way, I can post pictures directly on Commons and
integrate them on The Document Foundation wiki.

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/LOWN/3#LibreOffice_for_Mobile_will_be_soon_a_reality

which i really hadn't realised at all. I thought there was a major
blocker

preventing this and that on-top of having to re-write 100% of the
coding first. However it now seems that only 10% of the code
needs re-writing! The UI issue seems a lot less of a problem too!

Actually, it has been announced at FOSDEM 2013 (I've participated in
each edition since 2012), but AFAIK no one posted a blog post about
this subject, excepted the Youtube video I mentioned of course.

I wish that instead of the issues being 1, 2, 3 they gave the
date, perhaps in reverse order such as

2014-07-07 2014-07-14 2014-07-21

Actually, the first edition was on the 14st June, the 2nd on 21. I had
unfortunately not enough content for a 3rd edition. So I needed to
wait.

I'll look for a way to have the publication date in the title
*without* changing the URL.

It looks like a huge amount of work has gone into this and it's
really great to see it collect together information from so many
mailing lists.

Indeed, LOWN#3 required to read more than 1,2k mails and yet 226 for
LOWN#4

Indeed, we I've not much content.

to collaboratively edit news of the project for project members.

Maybe some advertising could come in handy this time?

LOWN could even be useful when we (sophi) have to write the yearly
report for German authorities.

Btw, I used one of your picture in LOWN#3 without your permission.
I've looked in your whole blog, but coudn't find any license
statement. Could you therefore write one (Creative Commons?) or post
the current more in evidence, in the footer of your blog for example?

Hi
Rethink about how the 'problems' are really benefits.

For example the quality of English is excellent but just occasionally it
becomes obvious that English is not the first language. However this is
also true of many, many other people in the LibreOffice community. So if
English WAS your first language then it might have been good to do it
deliberately to help make people feel more comfortable and to help "show
off" the international nature of the LibreOffice community. On the other
hand it is really not a problem anyway because the general quality is
superb.

Btw, that is a LOT of emails to read! I am only on a few mailing lists
here. Even those few generate an overwhelming amount of emails. I have
tried liaising between different mailing lists but it is not well
received. The weekly/monthly newsletter does a better job of that. Good
job!!
