now can Purchase a NA-DVD

Thanks to Drew, we now have a service that will "print-on-demand" a copy of the LibreOffice North American Community DVD - version 3.5.5.

Here is a link for a direct retail page:

http://kunaki.com/sales.asp?PID=PX00B1FF2L

Kunaki handles all the payment collection.

The DVD is $5 plus shipping, and that will give TDF/LO a donation of the profit.

Finally, you can now buy a professionally made DVD at a good price.

Drew has stated that he wants to get the purchase into an Amazon account so it can be purchased through them. There are people who would rather buy things through Amazon.com than direct from the producers. I buy many things there even though I can buy them at other sites.

SO
Now people can buy a NA-DVD instead of downloading the ISO file.

THIS will help those who use dial-up since they would not want to spend the time downloading a 200 MB Windows install file.

Hi
Good work from Drew there.  Glad he had all your hardwork to build up off.
Cheers Tim & Drew

Drew found the place. That was the key. We needed to find a place that could make the DVDs as a "print-on-demand" service, like the LO books for Lulu.com, but do it at a price that people can afford.

With shipping [USA], it is about $10 +/- per DVD, Thin Movie DVD case, and printed insert.

That is a good pricing, since have that is shipping and 75%+ of the rest is profit for TDF/LibreOffice.

Now we can finally have a place where dial-up users can get the file they want/need on a DVD instead of trying to use their dial-up account to download even the 200 MB Windows install file, plus the help pack.

I may buy one myself as a "show-piece" so I can have one on hand to show people what they get with their order, and where to order.

After a year working on the DVDs, 3.3 line, 3.4 line, and now 3.5 line [3.5.5], it all is getting in place for what the NA-DVD was created for.

Well done, Drew! I had been researching manufacturers, this is the same used by Raphael Hertzog to distribute his Debian remix:

I had that in my personal ToDo for a while (http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/User:MagicFab/LibODVD#ToDo), glad you're validating it. If/when you have a sample of what they ship, it'd be important to have pictures. I'll order one to carry it and use as a demo. I plan to finish my local design and use the same ship by september.

Cheers,

I am curious as to what the 2gb of extras contain! I am considering
purchasing a dvd but not sure if it is able to be shipped to New Zealand
if it could that would be great!

DO you have a broadband Internet connection? The .iso file is listed here.

If you do not have broadband connection, there should be a way for you to get a copy from some source. I have shipped one to Malta from the USA, but do not like to spend my own money on shipping, most of the time.

Hi Anthony,

Please remember I'm still waiting on a review copy - so I would
recommend holding off till that arrives

I did receive a ship notice / tracking number, for the review disk today
via email - so it should be here in a couple of days.

On the retail order page there is a drop down for country - this lists
all the locations they will ship to - New Zealand? Yes.

Look also, if you are willing to go with postal delivery, that the
shipping fees are not too bad, at all, for NZ.

Best wishes,

//drew

For now, it looks like either waiting for a DVD or just download bits and pieces, since there is a bandwidth issue in NZ where he lives.

He can look at the web version to see what the DVD is like. Then he, and anyone, can decide if it is worth the shipping costs.

Once it gets on a site like Amazon, then it should be easier to buy, since I do not think that the production site takes Paypal. I prefer Paypal for my online shopping.

Hi
Most places have no qualms about adding an extra amount to the purchase price to cover postage&packing.

The problem is that people try to get away with paying for as little as possible and try to give a sob-story so you have to be very straight-forwards sometimes and just insist on it.  I think the Malta case did have a very positive effect for the whole project though so it is appreciated.

Hi again (sorry for the double-posting)

The issue about New Zealand's connection to the rest of the world cropped up years ago in Ubuntu.  I think either Universities there or the authorities or someone ran a big hosting site to mirror "the essentials" and somehow Ubuntu managed to get mirrored on that.  Server-to-server 'up'-loading (or is it downloading or cross-loading?) should be far faster than going through a domestic route!

I think the Ubuntu crowd discussed posting physical media to get the bulk done more easily.

I was doing some reading about New Zealand's connection to the world and
it turns out we down under tap into some underwater fiber cable and that
the Government for some reason hires it from the US government, anyway
somewhere in the agreement it mentions that NZ can't exceed a ceartin
limit otherwise it would cook the service or something like that, anyway
I am writing this in a hurry as some one else wants the Mac so ill see
if i can post the link at a later date!
