odf as flat xml -- howto?

Hi,

I've just installed libreoffice-3.3.0.4 and it looks great!

Browsing through the new features page, I noticed the option to open/save
ODF documents as flat XML files. Yet, this option is not available in my
installation (or at least, I don't see it). Is this a matter of
configuration / installation of IO filters? If additional packages need to
be downloaded, could you point me to the exact file location? The only
pointer I found so far was a link on the
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Xml/Filters OO wiki , pointing to a
bunch of dead files in the
http://xml.openoffice.org/source/browse/api/odk/examples/cpp/GenericXMLFilter/
"Flat XML" filter page .

Thanks for any help!

Ron

Try "Save as" in Writer. The FlaxXML fodt appears in the dropdown list
of supported file types to save to.

Hi Alex,

Thanks very much for your help.

Well, that's my point: it is not present in the list of file types. I'll try
to attach a screenshot of my "save as" dropdown list (note: I already
installed some other filters, hence the extra file types):

Do you know how to enable the .fodt file type?

Kind regards,

Ron

I believe that filter requires a Java Runtime Environment (JRE):

Tools>Options>LibreOffice>Java>tick: 'Use a Java runtime environment,
then select your applicable JRE|restart LO for the change to take effect.

Yes, I can see that it doesn't show up. However, I can't help you much
further than that because I have a much longer list, and I am on Mac,
and didn't have to select any particular option as far as I can recall,
and certainly not when I installed. Someone else with a Windows version
will have to try and help you out I'm afraid.

Alex

When installing, choose to install "XSLT Sample Filters" under "Optional
Components"
This will add the "OpenDocument Text (Flat XML) (.fodt)" format .

Luuk

Run the install a second time. the install will show more options select
your extension options from the file tree. The program will not be
reinstalled just your new options.

Hi,

Thanks everyone for the help! I should have considered it being an optional feature...

Anyway, for the record: these suggestions did the trick:

When installing, choose to install "XSLT Sample Filters" under "Optional
Components"
This will add the "OpenDocument Text (Flat XML) (.fodt)" format .

[...]

Run the install a second time. the install will show more options select

reinstalled just your new options.

Works perfect now, thanks again!

Ron

Hi,

Optional? I didn't install any "optional features" on linux (.deb install).

But I just noticed that you are using Windows (I use linux). Huh...
noticed that the "optional features" do not get automatically installed
in the Windows version (tested on a WinXP in VMWare) & reinstalling with
the 'optional features' (actually Optional Components) works (thanks Luuk).

Perhaps this is a good reason for tagging a post here with [Windows]
[linux] etc., and the particular LO version details so that others will
know what OS & version.

Perhaps it's also worth passing this along to the website/installation
instruction folks/lists as well.

I am on a Mac also.
If, in Preferences you have chosen to use Libre Open/Save dialogs, the
option to save as odf flat xml does not appear.
Youhave to use the Mac dialog.

Umm, xml does appear at the bottom of the list in the screenshot?

That is not a Mac screen shot, it is Windows.

Tink.

Hi Tom,

That's caused by other filters (for TEI XML format) I already installed
(I thought I had mentioned that).

As pointed out earlier in this thread, the .fodt filter indeed is an
optional feature of LibreOffice (in Windows world, that is ;-)).

Kind regards,

Ron

I would consider that a bug. There should not be a difference in filter
choices just because you use the LibreOffice Open/Save dialogs instead
of the system ones. It might be a good idea for you to check out whether
a bug report for this has already been filed here :

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=ecific&bug_status=open&product=LibreOffice&content

If not, then open a new bug report.

LibreOffice on my Mac shows the same list of file types when using either the Mac save dialogue or the LibO save dialogue. odf flat xml appears in both.

Larry

Hi Larry,

appears in both.

Thanks for checking that, at least it confirms that I'm not alone in
being able to see the filter

I have searched for this bug to no avail, but I am experiencing difficulties
understanding my Bugszilla account.
Would someone please report this for me.

Many thanks,

Tink.

Well it would be worth reporting if we had confirmation from other Mac
users that the problem exists. So far, neither Larry nor I seem to have
the problem.

Have you tried stopping LibreOffice completely, taking it out of the
dock if you put it there, then deleting or renaming the
/User/myusername/Library/Application Support/LibreOffice folder and then
restarting LibreOffice ? When you do this, your LibreOffice
configuration folder should be recreated, and this might possibly solve
the problem.
