Pasting plain text into Calc changes row height and undo doesn't revert

The first [simple] thing I'm trying to do in LibreOffice isn't working out. I
opened an XLS file in Calc and pasted plain text (Paste Special >
Unformatted text) into a cell and the row height changed (increased) for no
apparent reason. Also, Undo only removes the content and doesn't revert the
row height. (For what it's worth, it's a Number cell.) This is in
LibreOffice v 4.1.3.2 installed via PortableApps.com in Windows 7 x64.

1) Why is it changing the row height?

2) Why doesn't it even revert the row height on undo?

Based on the limited information here, I am unable to replicate. What
OS and which version of LO are you using?

Thanks for your reply. See original post. Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

Hi
It's probably trying to accommodate all the text. Did the text nearly
fill the length of the cell? If so then widening the width of the
cell might allow it to be smaller vertically.

When you undo the pasting can you double-click on the line between the
row headers to make it auto-adjust the height of the row?

Another thing to try is to select several cells or the whole worksheet
and then go to
Format - Cells - Alignment
and UNtick the option "Wrap text automatically"

Thanks for your reply.

No, it happens when there's ample room in the cell to accommodate the
content.

No, after Undo removes the pasted content, double-clicking the row divider
does not revert the row to the original height.

This software seems to have serious issues with row height in general. After
opening the file, before pasting or doing anything, one row just randomly
has a different height than others (and the "Default value" box unticked),
when they're all the same height in Excel. On the other rows, that have
"Default value" ticked, if I untick the box but leave the Height unchanged
the row height visibly changes, but if I go back into the dialog it has the
same Height value and "Default value" is back to being ticked! WTF?!?

THANKS TOM!!

I've been wanting this function for a long time and could not find it.

BTW - I think you mean auto-adjust the WIDTH of the Column. If not it works just fine for me.

It works for both, and has done so for as long as I can remember...

I am unable to replicate on Windows 7 Professional x64 and Version: 4.1.3.2

Hi
@whatever
It sounds like you are having some weird and unusual things going
wrong that shouldn't be going wrong like that. Usual advice is to try
renaming your "User Profile"
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile
if that does work you can always copy chunks of your old profile back
into the new one to regain your galleries, templates and whatever else
is tucked away in there. That might help you find precisely what
broke it but typically only by re-breaking it. So once you have found
the config/setting/Extension that breaks it then rename your newer
profile and this time only copy the safe stuff from the 1st renamed
profile. I'd recommend trying the Extensions first because it's
usually some interaction between Extensions that causes weird errors.

Personally i dodge that and just use a fairly vanilla LibreOffice
without any of the good and interesting stuff that a lot of people
like. So i never need to find out what broke it and instead just
start out with a fresh clean User Profile.

@Ian and Tanstaafi
It has existed for ages but it's tricky to describe or find exactly
the right place to double-click. Once you have found the sweet-spot
and noticed the way the mouse pointer has become a strange line with
arrows then it's very easy and doesn't need describing because it's so
obvious. Before you find it it's impossible to find. Hindsight
rocks!

@TR Valentine
I'm not sure what you are trying to replicate. If it's the original
problem that you can't replicate then that points to the problem being
some weird combination in the User Profile

@T. R., thanks for trying to reproduce it.

@Tom, thanks for your suggestions. This was a fresh install with no
customization. The problem I described occurred with the first operation I
tried to perform. Nonetheless I tried your suggestion, with no change.

I guess this software isn't ready for prime time and I'm better off sticking
with my MS Office 97.
