Pootle searching fails - again

Hi,

For the statistics:
Searching for a string in
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/nl/libo42_ui/ fails.
Tried about five times during last four/five hours.

Apparently dumb user error since I picked up 4.2 from the browsers
memory.. Apols!
Cor

Not that working in 4.4. is a pleasure :frowning:

can you add details to Redmine ticket #707 and re-open it?
Maybe Sophie can then have a look and if it's really an issue, raise it with the Pootle folks.

Thanks,
Florian

Hi Florian,

can you add details to Redmine ticket #707 and re-open it?

I added 'details'
But can't reopen.

Now displaying https://translations.documentfoundation.org/translate/
does not work. Well at least not within the last 10 minutes.

Ciao,
Cor

same here. :frowning: Pootle is out of TDF infra, hosted on a separate machine, and Cloph (who might know what to do) is on vacation.

If it doesn't automagically heal itself by tomorrow, can you maybe poke Andras and Sophie? IMHO at least Andras also knows some details about the Pootle setup, and Sophie might know who else could help out...

I think this problem is escalating.

My hope was that the holiday period could give us time to finish the
translation of 4.4 but it didn't happen.

Translating with Pootle is PITA. And for the Danish translation I can say
that we have more or less given up on it. At least two of our regular
translators has left the project (temporarily I hope) because of this
situation.

I think the issue should be raised to management level or at least be
prioritized.

Cheers,
Leif

It has been 'managed' already. Now only needs to be fixed..

Hi,

I've missed the topic for second time. Sorry for that.

I want to ask that if something said about the new accelerator sign '_'
when placed inside the word, seperates the word and prevents having a
search match.

Best regards,
Zeki

Maybe a temporary solution for them is to use Virtaal, until we try to
see where we can enhance things here. I'm not sure of what can be
exactly done, but this is something I would like to discuss during
Fosdem (in the light of Cloph answer here
http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice-l10n-Pootle-server-speed-tt4128467.html)

I think the issue should be raised to management level or at least be
prioritized.

I would like first to give a try to the new workflow and see how things
improve here. I've also contacted Dwayne (Pootle developer) multiple
times but his availability is very low, I'll write him again today.
LibreOffice is a very large project and we have few comparison elements
with other projects. However, if we need to test other software in
replacement, we will do it. I still have Weblate to test
(https://weblate.org/en/features/) in mind, but well before replacing a
full installation, I think trying to enhance it is better, again due to
the large project we have.

Cheers
Sophie

sorry to hear about those issues. :frowning: The whole Pootle issue is a long story, and things so far did not work out as expected, despite various approaches by Sophie and me. From what I remember, this is nothing fixable from the infra side, but only in the program's code, which we tried to get, but...

Sophie, Cloph, can we maybe have a call on this on Thursday or Friday so you can update me what the story is and we can evaluate our options here?

Thanks,
Florian

Both days are ok for me. I've sent a mail to Dwayne with you in copy so

Besides Danish LibreOffice translation I am also working at a translation
of the 'OpenProject' software. The platform used for this is the Crowdin
Localization Management Platform whith which I have only positive and
recommendable experience (also from a couple of older projects).
Crowdin has a standing offer to give free acces for OpenSource software -

Just a suggestion - It really would be nice to work with LO at a platform
without all these errors and interruptions.

Yeah... have you ever tried exporting a po file from Crowdin? Totally bonkers.

Hi Michael,
Thank you very much for your opinion.
May I suggest a more positive approach to people who comes with positive
suggestions? Your attitude doesn't exactly attract new contributor.

Thank you in advance.

Cheers,
Leif

I called Crowdin bonkers, clearly I did not call Jan bonkers. And I do a lot of *off-list* outreach to get dormant locales back up. People who are already ON the list tend to be, well, not exactly new on the whole.

I apologize if I sounded brusque but these issues are rarely resolved by just migrating to a new platform, they all come with their own set of pull-your-hair-out issues. Especially the very new ones. And a platform which requires users to be hacker level developers to export a po is clearly on some other planet. So 'bonkers' is actually mild.

His attitude sucks, this is not the only list in which he is being
harsh lately (also received some of his niceness in
ubuntu-translators). Michael, you should take a break, dude.

It may well be that his style is different and some harsh to others,
while he does not intend or experience it that way? Of course, it might
help if he can adjust a bit to avoid misunderstanding and other
feelings, but I often try to take into account that we all have a
different background before taking offense

You are right, it is most likely that we have different cultural
backgrounds and education. But I still believe we can all try to
behave a bit more professionally.

thanks a lot!

I will follow-up with you and Cloph offlist first, and then get back to this list.

Sorry again for the inconveniences,
Florian
